Is Coronavirus Cleaning Necessary for Commercial Property?

8/11/2022 (Permalink)

For more information on Covid-19 Cleaning, Call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach 562-506-4992

According to reports by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Covid-19 can thrive on a wide range of surfaces. This means that you could contract it when you come into contact with a contaminated surface.

Some people who get infected are asymptomatic while others show symptoms. When they finally do, it's mostly after 14 days. Therefore, exercising caution contributes to minimizing the spread of coronavirus significantly.

One of the guaranteed ways to curb this spread is hiring skilled commercial building cleaners. You need SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach to keep your surfaces disinfected, thus reducing exposure to this virus. We work on a wide range of businesses. Since you're responsible for the safety of everyone who visits your business premises, you can hire us to enhance it through Covid-19 cleaning.

We train our employees to follow the appropriate cleaning and disinfecting protocols for coronavirus. We also prioritize disinfecting businesses whose owners believe that their work environment has been exposed to the virus.

Steps to Cleaning and Disinfecting Surfaces for Covid-19

Our trained employees understand that cleaning surfaces for Covid-19 requires plenty of attention and precision. Therefore, we don't use basic cleaning items to clean and disinfect the surfaces. Usually, the process requires significant planning. Once we have assessed and mapped the space, we use specialized equipment and products for Covid-19 disinfection.

We focus on thorough cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing all the surfaces in your workplace. First, we send our team of experts to assess your commercial property. Most importantly, we prioritize buildings that people suspect have been compromised. From here, we follow the established cleaning protocols so that your building is disinfected suitably.

Our specialized cleaning service involves cleaning surfaces such as computers, keyboards, touch screens, desks, door handles, hallways, seating areas, shopping carts, handrails, and other contaminated areas. Our skilled employees also make sure that they clean common areas in the office thoroughly. However, you need to know that our cleaning procedure depends on your type of business.

Normally, we use high-quality cleaning products. We only use those that have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because we understand that safety comes first, especially during a pandemic.

That means you can resume your day-to-day office work after the cleaning exercise because all our products are safe. We also prioritize our employees by making sure that they wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during the cleaning and disinfection exercise.

You also don't have to worry about us leaving any waste behind. Our cleanings services also involve proper waste disposal, especially where bio-hazardous waste is involved. We aim to leave your commercial property sparkling clean and properly sanitized to minimize the spread of Covid-19.

So, if you reside in Northwest Long Beach and are in need of office cleaning services, we're only a call away. We offer a wide range of professional cleaning services, including janitorial work. Our team of experts is well versed in coronavirus cleaning, and they always follow the health measures put in place to minimize the spread of the virus in Southern California.

Types of Commercial Cleaning Services we Offer

One thing that businesses expect to experience regularly during the pandemic is an increased focus on disinfection and sanitation. That said, here are the services we offer.

1. Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning is standard practice in our company. Its importance, however, has significantly increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, and we don't intend to stop anytime soon. Regular deep cleaning contributes to proper sanitation, and it makes your business feel more welcoming. Moreover, it minimizes the buildup of grime and dirt and makes daily cleaning tasks seem seamless.

2. Upholstery Cleaning

We offer upholstery cleaning services to get rid of dust, dander, germs, and allergens. Proper upholstery cleaning not only extends the lifespan of your upholstered surfaces but also prevents damage. It is especially important if you run a high-traffic business because it means your upholstered surfaces have heavy daily use. Since it's difficult to know who's infected, thorough upholstery cleaning will help reduce the spread of the virus.

3. Floor Mat Cleaning

Floor mat cleaning helps to keep your commercial property tidy and clean. Additionally, it makes your work premises safer. In the Covid-19 era, having clean mats helps communicate your business's commitment to cleaning and sanitation. That way, your clients feel at ease whenever they're in your workplace.

4. Carpet Cleaning

Carpets usually improve the outlook of your office and enhance its comfort. However, they're also a hotbed for allergens and dander. Carpets tend to trap a lot of pollutants, which explains why you need routine carpet cleaning. You should always hire experts for the task to make sure your property is well sanitized. Additionally, proper service leaves your property looking and feeling great besides extending the lifespan of your carpet.

5. Janitorial Monthly Services

For your commercial property to stay spotless and reduce exposure to the virus, you might also require monthly cleaning services. Our experts carry out several monthly cleaning services, including:

  • Cleaning fabric chairs and other upholstered furniture in your office
  • Dusting and wiping down high surfaces, such as ceiling corners
  • Deep cleaning all surfaces in the building

Tips for Damaged Electronics Following A Fire

8/11/2022 (Permalink)

Cleaning up after a fire is a critical step in the restoration process. Many of your belongings can be saved if you treat them properly after a fire.

A fire in your house in can have a large impact on your property. Not only is the building affected, but the belongings inside are often damaged as well. Even if the flames do not touch these items, smoke can cause problems, particularly for electronics. The following are some steps you can take to salvage these important devices during fire cleanup.

1. Unplug or Turn Off Your Devices

If any of your electronics are still on, turn them off if it is safe to do so. If smoke has gone inside of these objects, it can carry soot and contaminants throughout the devices. Heat and air circulation can make it easier for corrosion and permanent damage to occur if they are still on.

2. Clean the Exterior

While smoke damage can be more devastating to the inside of your devices, you should still take care to remove any residue from the outside. A wet rag is often enough for the exterior of objects with hard surfaces.

3. Drain Wet Electronics

If the fire was severe, then a hose was likely used to put out the flames. In this case, a cleanup and restoration service will need to remove water from the building before fire cleanup begins. Affected devices should be drained and dried as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

4. Have Them Inspected and Repaired

Whether they have been affected by water or smoke, your devices can be irreparably damaged if you attempt to use them before these elements have been completely removed. It is best to bring them to a professional for an inspection and any necessary repairs to make sure they are safe to use.

Fire cleanup is an important step in the restoration process. Many of your belongings can be salvaged after a fire, if they are treated in the right way. With the help of professionals, you can have your electronics ready for use again in no time.

Homeowners Insurance and Wind Damage

8/11/2022 (Permalink)

Storm Damage? Call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach to help 562-506-4992

Most homeowners policies cover wind damage, one of the most common causes of damage from storms. According to the Insurance Information Institute, research shows that homeowners filed more claims between 2014 and 2018 due to wind and hail damage than any other type of loss,1 including fire, water damage or theft.

Typically, homeowners insurance offers some wind damage coverage for the costs of repair and replacement associated with a bad storm. Be sure to check your homeowners policy to understand what it covers.

What Is Considered Wind Damage Under a Homeowners Policy?

Generally, most damage caused by wind in any type of storm is considered wind damage and is covered under a homeowners policy. Damaging winds can cause destruction to roofs, windows and more.

There are several types of storms that can cause wind damage that typically fall under the coverage in a homeowners policy, including:

  • Tornado
  • Hurricane
  • Thunderstorm
  • Hailstorm
  • Microburst
  • Derecho
  • Nor’easter

Is Wind Damage Covered by Home Insurance?

Yes, as noted above, homeowners insurance typically covers most types of wind damage. Usually, the dwelling coverage of your homeowners policy will help pay to repair or replace damage to the roof, siding or windows due to a wind event. Your homeowners policy also includes personal property coverage that may help to repair or replace items that become damaged due to a wind event.

Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Wind Damage to Roofs?

Depending on the type of policy you have, your homeowners insurance likely covers wind damage to the roof of your home. If you have other structures coverage, you may be covered for wind damage to roofs on other structures on your property, like a shed or free-standing garage.

Your policy will explain coverage for roof damage repair or replacement due to a wind event. Certain things like the age of your roof or unresolved maintenance issues may factor in to how much of the costs will be covered to repair the damage or replace the roof. Your insurance carrier will evaluate the damage, including any damage that may have existed prior to the wind event, and determine the appropriate reimbursement.

Protect Your Home

Wind-driven events have the potential to cause significant damage to your home. While your homeowners insurance helps protect your investment, it is equally important to take proactive measures to help secure your home from the damage of high winds. Here’s what you can do:

  • Protect Your Roof. Regular roof inspection is an important safeguard. You can start by doing your own site inspection. Walk a short distance from your house and use a pair of binoculars to inspect your roof. Note any missing or loose shingles or tiles and get those repaired or replaced by a licensed contractor. From the attic, check areas where wiring enters your roof. If you can see daylight, seal those areas. Finally, check your gutters and downspouts. Make sure they are clear of debris and firmly attached to your house.
  • Inspect Your Siding. Carefully inspect your siding and fix any deterioration. This includes reattaching loose siding and resealing siding around doors and windows, water lines, the dryer vent and where wires enter the home.
  • Eliminate Projectiles. If you know a windstorm is approaching, remove or secure all outside items that could become projectiles and cause damage to your home. These include lawn furniture, hanging baskets, grills, bicycles, toys and dead or overhanging tree branches.

When Flushing The Toilet, Water Remains On The Floor

8/11/2022 (Permalink)

Contact SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach to determine the cause of your toilet leak, make any necessary repairs, and help prevent further problems.

No one wants to flush the toilet, only to find water leaking out onto the floor around it. In most cases, however, a leaking toilet isn't cause for alarm and is usually an easy fix. All you need to do is figure out what's causing it and take steps to remedy the problem. Here's what to look for:

Take a Look at the Wax Seal

At the base of the toilet is a wax gasket that creates a seal between the toilet and the floor. Normally, when the seal is tight, the water flows straight down into the pipe when you flush. However, if the wax dries out and becomes brittle, it can develop cracks or pull away from one or both surfaces, allowing water to escape out from under the toilet base. If that's the case, it's as simple as replacing the old gasket with a new one.

Make Sure the Tank is Tight

If the toilet tank isn't on tight, water can escape from the juncture where the tank meets the bowl of the leaking toilet. Try wiggling it — the tank shouldn't move. If it does, it needs to be tightened. Turn off the water supply and empty the tank as much as possible. Then, tighten the bolts inside to secure the tank firmly to the bowl.

Check the Tank Flange

The flange is the mechanism inside the tank that allows the water to fill and empty into the toilet. If the arm piece is broken, you can use a repair strap to fix it, or, in the worst-case scenario, replace the mechanism altogether. It should go without saying, but don't do anything to address your bathroom leak without shutting off the water supply first. If the steps outlined above aren't causing your leaking toilet, it's a good idea to call in professionals to fix the problem.

Contact a plumber or a water damage specialist in Northwest Long Beach to determine the cause, make the repairs necessary and help you prevent any further issues.

Humidity and Moisture Damage

8/10/2022 (Permalink)

If you have questions or need help identifying if your home has moisture damage, Call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach to assist today (562)506-4992.

Humidity (or the level of humidity in the air) is something you cannot avoid. Humidity can cause discomfort and make the air feel sticky. Different types of moisture damages occur at different humidity levels. The average relative humidity level can be found by looking to the local weather reports in your area. Maintenance of most objects below 50% RH at room temperature can protect items from moisture caused damages. These are four great reasons to manage indoor humidity.

Bathrooms grow mold and mildew

The bathroom is probably the most humid room in your home. You release more moisture to the air every time you use hot water for washing your hands or take a hot bath. Moisture-laden air is a perfect environment to grow mold and mildew. This can have serious consequences for your health. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent mold spores from entering your home. Even if you get rid of all the mold spores, they will still be there the next time you open a window or door. Controlling the interior humidity is the only way to stop mold and mildew growing in your home. Mold grows and proliferates at a temperature range of 12~38°C when humidity is greater than 60%. Mold and mildew are not only dangerous to your health but can also cause damage to walls and floors. Concrete and glass are porous materials that can be cleaned. However, porous surfaces such as carpet, fabric and drywall must be removed and replaced.

Hardwood Flooring Warps

Hardwood floors can be very sensitive to humidity. The wood floors can become warped, expanded, or separated if the air is too dry. Experts recommend maintaining a home between 40-60 percent humidity to preserve hardwood. Engineered hardwood is a better choice than traditional hardwood in humid regions, as it’s more resilient to humidity. Engineered wood flooring is made by pressing layers and glues of wood together. It doesn’t need to attach to the subfloor and won’t expand and contract with the seasons. It’s easy to keep humidity under control and protect your beautiful flooring by following a few easy steps. For example, use your bathroom fan when you release moisture.

HVAC Systems Struggle

Ambient humidity can affect your HVAC system. Each home HVAC system includes either a vacuum pump or a condensate drainage to remove condensation from the pipes. You will collect more condensation the higher your humidity is. It can leak into the vicinity of the air handler, creating a breeding ground for mold or mildew. Your HVAC system can be put under strain if there is too much humidity. Due to the increased humidity, your home may feel warmer inside. Experts recommend that the humidity, or the level of humidity, be kept below 50% during the summer when humidity can be a problem. The winter brings about a drop in humidity, which can make it uncomfortable. To avoid chapped lips and dry noses when it is cold outside, keep your interior moisture levels between 30-40%.

Keep It Comfy

Although humidity is not something you can avoid, it doesn’t mean that you need to live with dry winter air or hot sticky summer air. It’s important to maintain a healthy humidity level in your home. Too much can cause damage. By washing, cooking and breathing, the average family creates up to 20 pints (11.36 Liters) of moisture every day. This moisture must go somewhere and be dealt with to avoid condensation. However, condensation could appear in many forms and the most common being steaming windows. And in extreme cases, dark spots of mold will appear. Condensation is the result of a buildup of moisture caused by our normal lifestyle and it's unavoidable.

Flash Flood Warnings - Beware!

8/10/2022 (Permalink)

We at SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach have trained technicians and all the equipment needed to remediate all sources of water damage 24/7

California is prone to potentially devastating impacts of periodic floods. All 58 counties have experienced at least 1 significant flood event in the past 25 years, resulting in loss of life and billions of dollars in damages. Floods are naturally occurring phenomena in California. They can keep erosion and sedimentation in natural balance, replenish soils, recharge groundwater, and support a variety of coastal floodplain habitats for some of California’s most sensitive species.

But when floods occur where people live and work, the result can be a tragic loss of life and property, including economic impacts from damaged critical infrastructure and vital public facilities, valuable agricultural land taken out of production, and disruptions to California’s water supply system.

One of the leading risk factors for flooding in California is the fact that so many of our major cities have developed around major rivers. Climate change predicts even more variability in meteorological and hydrologic conditions with increasingly intense atmospheric rivers, punctuated by increasingly severe droughts.

All regions of California are susceptible to flooding at different times of the year and in different forms ranging from tsunamis in coastal areas to alluvial fan flooding at the base of hillsides, and from fast-moving flash floods to slow rise deep flooding in valleys. Flood risk varies across the state, generally increasing with storm frequency, as well as with development in floodplains.

We work with local and federal agencies to build and maintain a robust flood control system of levees and bypasses.

All Californians should know their flood risk and be prepared. Damage caused by flood can be devastating, including lives lost, property damaged and negative economic effect.

The question is how do you prepare for such a disaster event? There are several ways you can prepare for flood.

1- Check with your local council about their flood plan.

2- Ask authorities about relocation routes and centers.

3- If you are in a flood zone consider alternative floor instead of carpet.

4- Emergency kit

5- Have household plan

Also you can get great help on FEMA website or take. This is one of many classes they offer

In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, stores saw devastating shortages of essential supplies, like hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and cleaning products. As the first cases emerged, many questions arose about the survival of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on surfaces. Thus, many people purchased dozens of cleaning products with the hope of eradicating the virus from groceries, packages and frequently touched surfaces in the home. In many cases, it is considered best practice to disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched, like doorknobs and cell phones, to mitigate the spread of disease within a community. Still, scientists worry—especially with the recent global spread of monkeypox virus and discussion of future pandemics—that the overuse of cleaning products will contribute to significant supply chain shortages, exposure to toxins and antimicrobial resistance.  Floors and walls are considered low-risk surfaces for exposure, while frequently touched surfaces (e.g., television remotes, door handles) are surface and agent dependent for exposure.

As we continue the battle against COVID-19, it’s important to feel confident that the place where we gather is clean and safe. SERVPRO knows that we all have a new sense of what it means to be clean, and that’s why we have the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned program. When you see our CSC shield in the door of businesses in your community, you can be sure it’s a clean environment. This defensive and proactive pathogen cleaning program goes well beyond standard janitorial cleaning practices. With more than 50 years of experience in viral pathogen cleaning, you can trust us to bring a higher standard of clean to your local businesses.

When you see the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned shield on the door or inside the businesses in your community, you can know that space has been cleaned to a higher standard, so you can feel safe to go there. This thorough deep COVID cleaning has 3 phases- we call them the “3 C’s”:

Consult

We customize a cleaning program based on the unique needs of each business.

Clean

In this step, our trained professionals will use EPA-approved hospital-grade cleaning solutions to clean a facility based on the particular needs of that business. We adhere to the cleaning and decontamination standards set by the CDC, cleaning all touchpoints and surrounding surfaces.

Certify

You’ll know a business is Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned by the shield posted on their front window. Our shield represents their commitment to the comfort and security of their employees, customers, and community.

Spring Cleaning All Year Round

8/4/2022 (Permalink)

For Office cleaning inquiries, call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach Today! 562-506-4992

When spring cleaning comes to mind, we usually think it is in regards to our homes, but our office or job sites can benefit from a bit of extra attention as well. Our workplaces are our second homes because of the great amount of time we spend there each day. Our productivity and inspiration can be affected if clutter starts to visually collect around us and our allergies can act up right around springtime if dust has built up in keyboards, computers, windowsills, corners, behind furniture, and under rugs.

If you have time to set aside and allocate towards a deep cleaning endeavor, that’s wonderful but most of us have such a large workload that we can only chip away at tasks in short increments. A beneficial way to tackle these jobs is to set a 15-30 minute timer and do as much as you can during that time frame. By the end of the week, you will have completed quite a lot and will greatly benefit from your progress.

Disinfect - Since the beginning of the pandemic we all are more cognoscente of the importance of disinfecting high touch-point and common areas which is an excellent habit to maintain. Phones, keyboards, doorknobs, light switches, water cooler knobs, coffee machine buttons, etc. can all be quickly addressed with a disinfecting wipe.

Organize – A virtual cleanup of our desktop screen, organizing files, and email inbox will freshen up your visual clutter. A change of scenery by replacing your screen background is a great idea too. Dusting and then sprucing up your desk, cleaning drawers, and wiping chords and anything under the desk will help. Decluttering takes an objective eye but if you mentally prepare to toss, donate, or take home things it can make a huge difference. Minimizing personal items and things collected all year long will give you a clean slate. A clean space feels so good and the sooner you get started the more productive your workday can be.

Many times while going through the deeper cleaning process, you come across dead insects or piles of dust bunnies wrapped in hair. What a relief to get these things cleared out so you can breathe fresher air. If you discover some water staining on the ceiling, a leak under a sink, or any moldy patches, give our team a call. We can professionally evaluate the circumstance and make the needed recommendations to keep your surroundings optimal for the remaining portion of the work year.

SoCal Storm Tips

8/4/2022 (Permalink)

Don't get caught in the storm! SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach is here around the clock to help with any storm damage-related issues. 562-506-4992

If you are a homeowner, a property manager, or own commercial buildings you can benefit by quarterly walking the exterior and interior of your property checking for areas that may need maintenance. As an insurance policyholder, you are expected to be proactive regarding repairs and take preventative measures to avoid potential damage risks.

The following four areas may be areas of concern so that precautions can be taken far in advance since many times we may have little to no warning of a downpour in our sunny state.

  1. Inspect Drains and Gutters – Debris can clog these areas and quickly cause a water intrusion, even if they are brand new.
  2. Inspect Windows and Doors – Wind, hot temperatures, and the intense sun can warp and wear on building materials, weatherproofing, and seals. Replacement may be needed especially if you live in a windy area pocket. Several years of strong winds can loosen window seals over time.
  3. Inspect Surrounding Landscape Close to the Structure – Trees and foliage grow quickly here in California. Trimming and maintaining a well-manicured yard lessens the risk of issues when the Santa Ana Winds kick up.
  4. Minimize Outdoor Furniture and Unsecured Items – When the winds startup they can be very strong so anchor or bolt down BBQs, mailboxes, dog houses, and any other item that could pose a potential danger to a person or to your structure.

How to tell if Mold is present in your home

8/3/2022 (Permalink)

Are you having mold concerns? Even if you are unsure if mold is actually present, worry no more... SERVPRO NWLB will assist.

Mold is naturally found in our environment and from time to time it is typical that a household may encounter it within the dwelling.

Concerns may arise though if the discovery and root cause is not addressed since mold can continue to grow and spread as it eats away at organic building materials. Mold will not go away on its own. If the water source feeding the spores stops, they may go dormant but if moisture continues to be present the mold will continue to grow and spread. The recommended protocol of treatment is removal by an IICRC Certified mold remediation or restoration company like SERVPRO.

Smell – A constant or intermittent damp musty smell could be an indicator that mold is present. As it grows it emits a distinct odor that is worth investigating further as soon as possible.

Visibly Present – If fuzzy or colored patches pop up along a wall, baseboard or cabinet there is a possibility that the mold has come from within the wall cavity and that the unseen areas have a bit to a lot more, depending.

Circumstance – If you experienced water leaking, excess condensation, or flooding and see new staining or spots of mold around, you will want to call a qualified professional out for an inspection or send photos for a mold technician to review.

Testing – If no mold is visible but you experienced water damage, water leak, water spill, or flood and suspect that mold could be present, we can schedule a mold test for your property. Lab results are returned within a few days.

You can trust SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach to assist with the microbial issues or water damages you are experiencing. Call now for more details. 562-506-4992

MOLD Be Gone!

8/3/2022 (Permalink)

See or Smell Mold, Call SERVPRO NWLB to get Mold gone in your home or business today 562-506-4992

With any potential property damage, prevention is key. The CDC recommends that after any sort of flooding that you clean up and dry out your home thoroughly and quickly within 24-48 hours to avoid the high risk of microbial growth.

Many have heard that you can use a bleach solution to scrub and wipe away to remove the visible mold, but will that work? It depends. If a hard surface is affected at the surface level only, is unoccupied by humans and/or pets, perhaps but PLEASE NOTE: PPE (personal protection equipment) should be used by regular building maintenance staff, and only if they have been properly trained by OSHA to do so. Also, if you are only talking about a wall or ceiling tile section where a small 10 square foot or less needs to be cleaned, the spores will become dormant and only reactivate if re-saturated.

So really depending on how much water damage occurred your plan of action may vary. Once mold starts to grow in building materials the proper IICRC protocol is to remove and replace the items. Mold spores are often likened to a dandelion. As kids, we would blow on the top cluster of the flower or lawn weed, and watch the fuzzy seeds float away and spread all over. Mold spores act very similarly and can spread quickly with air movement.

So do you hire a handyman for this job? You could but, what is their knowledge of proper removal procedures? As walls are opened, drywall, moldy carpets, or floors removed, the mold spores are kicked up into the air and could be spreading throughout the rest of your home or business if not contained.

Whether you are a homeowner, business owner, or commercial property manager/owner... Hiring an IICRC-certified professional restoration company like SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach to remediate the mold the right way using many, many years of expertise along with specialty equipment will keep the air-quality healthy which can give you peace of mind in the future.

Fire Damage: The Do's and Don'ts

8/2/2022 (Permalink)

Call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach after your home or business experiences a fire. (562)506-4992

A fire can be one of the most devastating things to a home. Not only is there the damage from the fire itself, but often water is used to put out the fire, which can cause additional damage. If you have experienced a fire in your home, it is important to know what to do and what not to do to minimize the damage.

The DO's

  • Make safety a priority: Your safety and your family's safety should be your number one priority after a fire. Be sure to check for any structural damage to your home before re-entering and be aware of any potential hazards.
  • Call a professional: Once you have ensured that everyone is safe, the next step is to call a professional fire damage restoration company. They will be able to assess the damage and start restoring your home.
  • Call your insurance company: As soon as possible after the fire, you should call your insurance company and let them know what has happened. They will be able to help you determine what coverage you have and what steps you need to take next.
  • Make a list of damaged items: Once the fire is out and it is safe to enter your home, make a list of all the items that were damaged by the fire. It will be important when you are making an insurance claim.
  • Take pictures: If possible, take pictures of the damage. It will provide documentation for your insurance claim.
  • Clean up what you can: Once you have documented the damage, start cleaning up what you can. It will help prevent further damage and will make the repair process easier.
  • Be very careful when walking around your home. There may be loose floorboards or other hazards that you cannot see.
  • Take advantage of any resources your local community may offer. Many communities have resources available to help homeowners who have experienced a fire. These resources may include temporary housing, financial assistance, or counseling services.

The DON'Ts

  • Please don't enter your home until it is safe: Until the fire department has declared it safe, do not enter your home. There could be structural damage that makes it unsafe to enter.
  • Don't try to clean up on your own: Many people think they can save money by cleaning up the damage themselves. However, this is not recommended. Cleaning up fire damage is a complex process and, if done wrong, could cause further damage. It is best to leave it to the professionals.
  • Don't throw away damaged items: Until you have talked to your insurance company, do not throw away any items that were damaged in the fire. They may be able to be repaired or restored, and you don't want to get rid of something that your policy could cover.
  • Don’t use any fans or air conditioners until you have consulted with a professional restoration company. Fans and air conditioners can spread soot and smoke damage if they are not correctly used.

If you have experienced a fire in your home, follow these dos and don'ts to minimize the damage and call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach. Also, be sure to call your insurance company as soon as possible so they can help you through the process.

Essential Signs You Might Have Hidden Water Damage In Your Home

7/15/2022 (Permalink)

Don't Let water damage go unnoticed, call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach today!

There are many reasons for water damage to a home or building, and some are more obvious than others. While a burst pipe or a sink overflowing is easily identified and repaired, water damage can sometimes not be immediately apparent. Hidden water damage signs can be difficult to spot.

Unnoticed water damage can cause structural damage and cost thousands in repair costs. Hidden water leaks in basements, slow leaks in roofs, and even a dripping faucet could cause damage to a building.

Are you unsure if there is hidden water damage to your home or business premises? You can identify if you should call a professional by looking for these signs.

Listed below are signs of hidden water damage that you should look for in your home:

  • Mold Growth.Visible mold can be a sign that there is a water problem. Mold can grow when the humidity level is high in a house. Mold can often grow in seams between ceilings and floors. There are several methods to get rid of mild mold growth. A Long Beach mold remediation firm can help you identify the source of large-scale mold infestations and remove it.
  • Musty Odors:The most obvious sign of water damage is the musty smell. Mold and dampness are the main causes of musty smells. Even without visible mold growth, musty smells can still occur. Moldy smells or musty odors can be caused by moisture, poor air circulation, and darkening. It is not possible to cover up the problem by covering it up. It is important to identify the source of unpleasant odors in your home before further damage occurs.
  • Wallpaper and Peeling Paint:The appearance of peeling wallpaper and paint is an indicator that there may be hidden water damage. Water can cause wallpaper and paint to loose their adhesiveness to sheetrock and drywall. This is not only unattractive, but it can also cause further damage that may be difficult to repair.
  • Discoloration and Stains:We have all seen water stained ceilings and drywall. Although it might seem tempting to cover up the discoloration with paint, you should not ignore signs of water damage. Leakage or discoloration may indicate a leaky roof, or leaking pipes beneath drywall. You should seek out the source of any discolorations or stains and contact a professional.
  • Wavy Floors, Walls and Ceilings:Water can cause wood and drywall to buckle and warp. These materials can absorb water and cause structural damage that can lead to hazards. Water damage can cause walls to crack or floors to creak.
  • Sudden jump in utility bills:It is normal for utility bills to jump, especially in the first cold spell or when spring gardens are being planted. Hidden leaks may be indicated by other jumps in your water bills. To see trends in water usage, pay close attention to your monthly bill. Unexpected spikes in water usage could indicate a problem.
  • Water Damage under the Sink:It is difficult to see water from a leaking bathroom or kitchen sink. Many homeowners don’t inspect their plumbing fixtures often. Although some moisture is normal under the sink, a drip or a leak can prove to be a problem.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF A WATER ISSUE

It is important to act immediately if you discover a water leakage or water damage. Although a minor discoloration or mild musty odor may seem manageable, they can cause more serious damage and problems for homeowners.

Water can cause structural damage that can lead to unsafe living conditions, and costly home renovations.

You may be able fix water problems by fixing plumbing, replacing drywall and mold if you’re an expert in home improvement. SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach is the best choice for larger problems and we have the resources and expertise to safely and efficiently resolve water problems.

Fire Damage Restoration

Have Questions about Fire, Smoke, or Soot Damage? Call Us Today – (562) 506-4992

If you are experiencing a fire, call 911 immediately! Once you know that you and your loved ones are safe and that the fire has been terminated, it’s time to assess the damage. Our fire response specialists have years of experience restoring homes and offices that have experienced fire damage. Fire damage restoration is a process of cleaning up fire debris, smoke stains, and even water that may have been used to put out the fire. Often, restoration includes extensive work to walls, flooring, and countertops. Our certified professionals have the tools and know how to repair heat, smoke, and water damage. Beware of these common ways a fire can start in your home:

Protein Fire: Beware of the Protein Fire. This is the most common type of fire. You’ve left food in the oven and the stove burns, leaving a strong burnt odor and smoke residue on surfaces and walls nearby. Avoid this by always being in the kitchen when cooking.

Complex Fire: The Complex Fire involves natural or synthetic household items leaving black smoke residue on materials and surfaces. For example, you’ve left an uncovered pan cooking on the stove and suddenly you have stains on your walls. Try to move burning items away from walls and surfaces and never leave a fire unattended.

Natural Fire: Be careful of burning trees, shrubs, and plants. They can easily penetrate your home and cause damage.

Furnace Malfunction: Check your heating appliances regularly. Malfunctioning appliances such as furnaces and bedroom heaters can create smoke and potentially start a fire.

STORM DAMAGE: HOW TO BE PREPARED

7/13/2022 (Permalink)

Storm clouds brewing in Long Beach area

The devastation caused by storm damage can be far-reaching. The residents and business owners in the Greater Santa Barbara area were victims to the cruel effects of the wild fires, mud slides and extreme water damage occurring this year. SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach was there to help with cleanup, restoration and reconstruction expertise.

When a wild fire has affected an area, it becomes susceptible to landslides due to destabilization of the soil or foundation. When a storm is threatening, preplanning and preparation can assist in lessening storm and water damage.

The most important thing to know is how to recognize when the storm will be approaching and the signs that come along with a landslide. Change in the landscape and sudden cracks in the pavement are major signs that a landslide may occur at your home. Indicators such as pipes bursting, and crackling of trees or light rumbling sounds are signs that the ground beneath is moving.

During a severe storm make sure to stay alert and awake. Move away from the path of a landslide or debris flow as quickly as possible. The danger from a mudflow increases near stream channels and with prolonged heavy rains. Make sure to stay clear of all rivers or open bodies of water. If escape from the landslide is not possible, authorities recommend you curl into a tight ball and cover your neck and head as much as possible.

After a landslide make sure you stay away from affected until advised otherwise. Look for and report broken utility lines and damaged roadways and railways to appropriate authorities. Reporting potential hazards will get the utilities turned off as quickly as possible, preventing further home emergencies. SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach is here to assist you with any storm damages, as well water and fire damages, affecting your home or business. Call us, 24/7, when emergency strikes: (562)506-4992

Warm Weather And Good Times Outdoors, What About Lightning?

7/13/2022 (Permalink)

Lightning strike at Local Beach

Lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun, it can reach temperatures around 50,000 degrees F. That is according to the National Weather Service. While we still have some good outdoor weather ahead, use caution.

Here are some outdoor activity guidance from The National Weather Service:

Coach of Outdoor Sports Team
Your little league team has an evening game at the local recreational park. The weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, with a chance of thunderstorms by early evening. When you arrive at the park, you notice the only safe buildings are the restrooms.

Shortly after sunset, the sky gets cloudy and you see bright flashes in the sky. What should you do? Get everyone into vehicles or the restrooms. Do NOT stay in the dugouts; they are not safe during lightning activity. Once in a safe place, wait 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before resuming play.

At the Beach or Lake

Your family plans to go to the beach today. The weather forecast calls for a nice morning followed by a 30 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms. When you get to the beach, you see that the only nearby structures are open-sided picnic shelters.

The parking lot is a 5 minute walk from the beach. By early afternoon skies are darkening and hear distant thunder. What should you do? Go to your car! Do NOT seek shelter under the beach picnic shelters. Wait 30 minutes until after the last rumble of thunder before going back to the beach.

TSUNAMI: A REAL THREAT IN CALIFORNIA

7/13/2022 (Permalink)

Tsunami preparedness is critical for Long Beach

Living in California, and especially along the coast, we’re aware that we can feel the negative impacts from natural threats such as tropical storms and Tsunamis. In fact, just off the coast of California lies the Cascadia fault – which is thought to be up to 30 times more powerful than its more famous neighbor, the San Andreas Fault.

SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach is here to assist when your home or business is affected by water, fire and storm damages. We also want to provide you information to help you avoid loss or damage to property, personal belongings or, in the worst case, people. Here are some insights about Tsunamis to keep you informed:

Ready.gov classifies a tsunami as "a series of enormous waves created by an underwater disturbance such as an earthquake, landslide, volcanic eruption, or meteorite."  Tsunamis are also known as seismic sea waves and often mistaken for tidal waves. Areas within a mile of the coast and less than 25 feet about sea level have a greater risk of being hit, according to www.Ready.gov

It is important to be aware of evacuation routes close to the beach and have an emergency plan prepared in case one strikes. It is also very important to understand that the first wave often is not the last and could get larger. Once you have reached higher ground, make sure to stay away from effected sites until officials deem them safe. Flooding is the most common safety hazard but, in the aftermath of the event, landslides, floods, debris, and/or contaminated drinking water can also occur.

If you are traveling anywhere tropical, you may want to check out www.tsunami.gov  in advance to determine if there are advisory warnings, threats, etc. Also, make sure you keep up-to-date on where to go during an emergency evacuation due to tsunami and who to contact once you reach a safe area.

If your property becomes damaged from a tsunami, or from any loss caused by water, fire, storm or biohazard, SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach is here to clean up, restore and, when needed, reconstruct your home or business.  Reach us 24/7/365 at (562)506-4992

Mold in the Workplace

7/13/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach has the equipment to tackle mold, whether big or small area

Mold can grow virtually anywhere and generally is not a problem. However, issues arise when mold grows indoors.

Mold in the workplace can result in health problems and can cause significant damage to a workplace as well. As a significant location in your life, the workplace would highly benefit from mold testing.

Scientific research on the health effects of mold exposure is ongoing, but some facts are known. Mold exposure may cause allergic reactions; skin or mucosal infections; asthma attacks; and skin, eyes, nose and throat irritation, according to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration.

To help prevent mold growth in buildings, be on the lookout for water damage, leaks or excessive moisture, and be sure to clean up all spills immediately.

Prevention:

If you suspect mold in your workplace, ask yourself these questions:

  • Is there visible water damage anywhere?
  • Are there building materials around that have been wet for more than two days?
  • Does the building have pre-existing moisture issues?
  • Are workers complaining of musty or moldy smells?
  • Is anyone reporting health problems that could be associated with mold?

OSHA recommends a number of tips to help prevent mold in your workplace, including:

  • Repair any plumbing problems immediately.
  • Keep your building’s humidity level below 70 percent.
  • Regularly inspect your building’s HVAC system.
  • Ensure adequate drainage is around your building.
  • Keep vents for moisture-creating appliances on the outside of the building.

Throughout the US, floods remain one of the most widespread and common natural disasters that affect us. No matter where you’re located, in the mountains, along the coast, in the city, close to a river, or out in the desert, you can still be impacted by a flood.

Here are some important safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Even 6 inches of quickly moving water can sweep you off your feet so steer clear of floodwaters. If you find yourself in an area where the water reaches above your ankles, find another path, walk another way.

Smoke Detectors: Vital Information and Maintenance to Prevent Fire Damage

7/13/2022 (Permalink)

Smoke Detectors are vital to prevent fire damage

Smoke and fire damage can ravage structures and your personal property. A swift reaction can help you mitigate the impact of the damage, and some household goods can be salvaged if cleaned and treated immediately. One of the safest ways to protect your family and business is installing smoke detectors. It is vital to ensure that you have working smoke detectors, keeping in mind that heat, fumes and vapors are culpable for causing threatening damage. The following information is crucial in preventing fire at your home.

First off, it is important to note that photoelectric and ionization smoke alarms are the best for protection. Install them at every level of your home but not near windows, doors or ducts. In case you have a deaf person in the house, it is advisable to install an alarm that vibrates or has a flashing light. Smoke alarms should be mounted 4-inches away from the ceiling’s highest point.

Maintenance

For maintenance, smoke detectors should be tested on a monthly basis. The batteries should be replaced when the alarm starts chirping. It is also advisable to replace the smoke alarms at least every ten years. In case you wish to roast some barbeque while enjoying a cigar with your buddies, you should consider replacing your smoke alarm with one that has a “hush button”. In this manner, you do not have to remove the battery every time you cook. Make fire detector maintenance your emergency disaster plan.

Benefits of Installing Fire Detectors

Smoke detectors help prevent smoke inhalation which is the leading cause of fire-related issues. They also help in early fire detection which renders you have enough time to seek safety. You can also circumvent damage to property which often require large investments and time to repair. Lastly, a fire alarm is easy to install and boosts your safety and security, whether you are at home or not.

Key Factors of Commercial Restoration

7/11/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach doing commercial restoration at local union

Residential restoration and commercial restoration are very different types of projects. Residential is very emotional for the customer and family that resides in the home and also be very personal due to the contents within the home having very sentimental attachments. Commercial restoration can also be emotional for the clients but due to there being more stakeholders involved in the loss things can get much more complex. In commercial restoration we have business interruption, customer impact, and Inventory issues and contents maintenance. For the commercial restoration process to go smoothly, there are 4 key factors to consider: safety, stability, continuity and communication.

Factor 1: Safety

Safety is the paramount concern when it comes to commercial restoration projects because nothing is more important than the people. There are a variety of safety issues when on a commercial restoration project including mold exposure, hazardous materials, structural weaknesses and utility hazards including gas, electrical and construction. With all of these factors together, the risk is far too great for secondary damage or additional loss. Safety must not only be the first step in commercial restoration but must also be a key factor in every stage of the project.

Factor 2: Stability

Stabilizing the loss is the first priority so that we can limit any secondary damage to the building or property. This included stopping the source of the water intrusion, putting out the fire and tarping up the roof and areas of the house that are exposed to the elements. As soon as the disaster is contained the team can begin the process of pre-cleaning, water extraction, dehumidification, salvaging contents and setting up various levels of containment around the property area is all part of the emergency services phase.

Factor 3: Communication

The most important thing on any job big or small is always going to be communication. As a restoration company your communication should be on point with all of the parties involved including the client, adjusters, clerks, agents and all other POI’s. Commercial restoration can be a very fluid and moving science with scope changes, directive changes and client requests so the restoration company must have good communication. The company must be able to make split second decisions and communicate that to their crew instantly with good follow up and leadership from the technicians. Solid communication will allow everyone to prepare, plan and adapt to the changing needs of a large project.

Factor 4: Business Continuity

Businesses need assurance that they will be back up and running as a company very soon after suffering a loss. As a company SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach will do everything in their power to make sure that our commercial clients are back up and running their business in some capacity as soon as possible. Expediting the restoration and the reconstruction needs of a commercial client ensure that they can get back to normal operations sooner rather than later

Commercial Duct Cleaning Matters to your Customers the most!

7/11/2022 (Permalink)

Commercial Duct Cleaning Before & After

When it comes to Commercial Buildings there are a million different things that must be taken into account for the facility and the people inside of the facility. It can sometimes seem like duct cleaning an HVAC system that is not showing extensive and obvious problems can be a waste of time and money but nothing could be further from the truth.

Why Do Air Ducts Need Cleaning?

COVID-19 is absolutely transmitted through the air along with every other major virus, bacteria and contaminate. Inefficient air filtration and duct leaks can result in major intrusion of dust and other particles that that have the ability to accumulate to the point where they begin to break off and re-enter the circulated air. In the event that this occurs you will notice dust and particles enter the breathable air.

High humidity throughout the space or major water leaks can also create an environment perfect for mold growth. Mold spores can be released through the duct system and travel throughout your entire body, this type of mold exposure can have a very negative impact on the elderly, the sick and also create upper respiratory infections.

What Are The Benefits of Duct Cleaning

1.) Clean air ducts protect and ensure proper functionality of the whole commercial heating and cooling system in the facility.

2.) Proper duct cleaning will remove excess build up of dust and air borne viruses, bacteria and particles that could cause respiratory infections and sickness in people within the facility.

3.) HVAC efficiency is dependent on clean and unobstructed air ducts and proper airflow throughout the system.

4.) The longevity of the HVAC system is dramatically increased when the system is properly cleaned and serviced on a regular basis. This longevity saves thousands of dollars for the business year in and year out.

Business Fire Prevention Tips

7/11/2022 (Permalink)

Don't let your business go up in flames, Call SERVPRO Northwest Long Beach Today!

Here are some tips you can use to help keep employees and co-workers safe by preventing a fire from breaking out at your place of business.

There are many threats to a business owners livelihood – some preventable and others not. While not every fire can be prevented, there are some steps you and your employees can take to reduce the risk of a fire starting in the workplace.

- For starters, never overload an electrical outlet or power strip.

- Another way to reduce the risk of a fire is to keep flammable material and chemicals away from electrical outlets, power strips, and areas that experience higher-than-normal levels of heat, such as an oven or water heater.

- Excess clutter can act as fuel for a fire and help it spread to other areas.

Always keep entry and exit points clear as well as electrical panels and avoid blocking off fire extinguisher, fire alarms and fire sprinklers.

Of course, no amount of preparation and care can prevent office fires 100% percent of the time. Because of this, we strongly urge you to develop a fire preparedness plan and rehearse it once a month with your employees. In addition, making sure everyone in the office knows how to use a fire extinguisher (and knows where they are located) is crucial in the event that a fire does occur.

Summer Heat and Property Damage

7/7/2022 (Permalink)

water damage from overheated pipe in ceiling

The summer is full of fun activities, but the conditions can also lead to major property damage. Both mold and water damage can occur because of humidity and heat. If you find mold growth in your crawlspace or water damage caused by a leak in your roof, don’t hesitate to have the area repaired right away.

Summers may not always be humid, depending on the area in which you live, but even a little rain can lead to increased humidity. During a dry season, increased water usage can also cause pipes to crack, leak, and even burst.

Never hesitate to call a water damage restoration or mold removal professional as soon as you notice water or mold damage in your home. SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies and will schedule appointments for mold removal services. Our trained professionals will dry out the affected area, remove any soiled building materials, and dry out the remaining building materials. They can also advise you on how to avoid the issue from reoccurring in the future.

Mold 101

7/7/2022 (Permalink)

Our technicians hard at work on mold remediation with air scrubber

Mold spores naturally occur both outdoors and indoors, making it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level.

When organic materials feed on moisture, mold will start to grow. Your home already provides plenty of organic materials for mold to live on such as wood, drywall and various other building materials.

Keep in mind that most molds need 24-48 hours of moisture to begin to grow. Therefore if a suitable material in your home is wet for more than 24 hours then you run the risk of mold starting to grow. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Mold Remediation helps to contain mold and keep at microscopic levels. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

We live and work in this community too; we might even be neighbors. As a locally owned and operated business, SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach is close by and ready to help with your mold-damaged property.

Here at SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach, our trained professionals begin by conducting a formal inspection of the water loss and the affected areas of the property. Our technicians will use a moisture reader to determine the areas that need drying and will then determine what equipment and how many to effectively dry the home in a timely manner.

While it is important to dry the structure quickly, we also want to make sure everything is done properly and sometimes this requires extra processes to get the best results. We communicate every step of the process with your insurance company to make sure all approvals have been received and that they are aware of any necessary procedures that need to take place to complete the job. It is a team effort to get a property back to the original state and SERVPRO is happy to assist you in getting there

SERVPRO stabilizing water damage

One of the most damaging and devastating things you can experience as a homeowner is water damage. No matter what the cause, it is important to have a plan of action and know what you should do if your house floods.

6 Things You Must Do After a Major Water Leak in Your Home

  1. Turn off water supply from main valve
  2. Turn off utilities/power
  3. Mop up excess water quickly only if clean or gray water*
  4. Move and clean clothes and rugs
  5. File your insurance claim as quickly as possible
  6. Document all items that have been damaged

If your property has water damage:

  • Contact SERVPRO for professional water damage restoration services
  • Open doors and closets to create air flow

What is water remediation?

6/28/2022 (Permalink)

Excess water from pipe burst in commercial builiding

Water Remediation or Water damage restoration includes the complete process of water cleanup from beginning to end–(removal/extraction of water, drying items and structures, and moving restored items back to home or building).

Imagine hearing the confusing sound of water gushing out of somewhere it shouldn’t be. Although this sounds like a ghastly nightmare, it’s more often than not a reality for bewildered home or business owners. If you happen to be the victim of water damage, it’s imperative to deal with water damage as quickly as possible. Water damage will ruin a home or a business rapidly if steps are not taken straightaway to contain it.

If your home or business has experienced water damage, it's less likely that your house or building will suffer secondary water damage from structural issues. A timely water damage restoration allows you to swiftly and efficiently salvage any important belongings, such as paperwork, furniture, electronics, etc.

Mold is in the air

6/28/2022 (Permalink)

Air Scrubbers placed to clean air of mold and other allergens

Summer heat is proven to circulate mold spores and pollen, making seasonal allergies worse. If there’s one allergen that likes water more than cockroaches, it’s mold. Not only is mold hidden in the water, but on those hot, almost suffocating days, mold is in the air too. The humidity in the air plays a big role in our allergies because excess moisture in the air creates mold. This can play a role both indoors and outdoors, creating a breeding ground for allergens such as mildew, mold, dust mites, and bacteria. Mold allergies, along with dust, are one of the most common but unrecognized allergies for the general public. When you’re going out to the water in the summer heat, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared with an antihistamine to combat your allergic symptoms. Speaking of mold, it’s not just affecting us outdoors – it’s also affecting us in our homes. Sometimes you look at your weather app and see 3 digits depicting the current temperature for the day. A lot of us take that as a good excuse to have a lazy day inside. And trust me, there’s nothing wrong with doing that! However, when we’re staying inside for longer periods of time in the summer, we’re exposing ourselves to indoor allergens. An estimated 70% of homes have mold behind their walls. For some, a little mold can be fine and not really influence your health or breathing, but mold allergies are extremely common and a lot of times that means our indoor air quality may be worse than the outdoors.

SERVPRO can help! We offer mold remediation and can provide proper equipment to get you breathing healthier air. Contact us today!

Dealing with fire damage

1/25/2021 (Permalink)

Dealing with fire damage.

We should mention that every situation will be different depending on the severity of the fire damage incident, the bigger and hotter the fire the more difficult it will be in removing smoke odor as higher temperatures cause the pores of materials to open up more and thus absorbing more of the smoke odor. However, proper smoke odor removal will entail a combination of tactics including cleaning, deodorizing, and sealing of materials.

Basics you should know about fire damage restoration: The process involved will definitely differ depending on the severity and size of the fire and damage caused. However the principles of fire damage restoration will for the most part be the same. Like in most restoration projects the main goal we are trying to reach is preloss condition, that is you want your property to be restored back to how it was before the damages occurred; you want it to be safe, clean, free of smoky odors, and of course looking like It never even happened.

Water damage in Long Beach, California.

About 40% of all homeowners have experienced a loss from water damage. It can spread contamination, ruin your paint and damage your wood. The good news is that 93% of all water damage could have been prevented with the right knowledge. How can you protect your home from residential water damage? Here are seven ways to prepare. Plumbing systems, especially in older homes, are susceptible to stoppages and damage. To prevent plumbing problems before they start, be on the lookout for cracks, bulges, stains and other signs of moisture on your ceiling or floors. Water damage in Long Beach, CA

Water damage restoration (as a more specialized form of property restoration) is a fairly new and growing industry. But because of its unpredictable nature, many water restoration technicians find it challenging to find a consistent job.

Why unpredictable?

Despite many people experiencing water damage issues in their homes or workplaces, calling a water restoration technician is something they wouldn’t normally consider unless their property is devastated by a flood. In most cases, people will reach out to their local handyman or plumber to get rid of broken pipes, mold problems, or a leaky foundation.

If they do deal with severe water damage, it’s usually an emergency. And having no time to research for restoration companies, homeowners will resort to their home insurance provider or plumber for .

All these affect every water damage restoration company’s ability to scale. As a result, the demand for water damage restoration jobs hasn’t increased much in the past years.

Extracting Water

The most common and invasive type of damage that can happen in any home is water damage. It can occur due to natural conditions, such as heavy rain or flooding, or can be due to internal issues, such as leaking pipes, roofs, or fixtures.

Water damage ruins most homes without the owner knowing. If you find yourself in this situation, do not attempt to address it on your own. Instead, hire a water restoration specialist to handle the problem and restore your home.

Here is why hiring a professional is a better decision than fixing the problem yourself:

Water damage restoration professionals are called professionals for a reason. They have the right equipment to ensure that water and moisture from your home are fully removed. The state-of-the-art equipment they use is consists of the following:

Having a right equipment is the key

  • Shop vacs: This is a special kind of vacuum that can suck up liquid.
  • Air movers: These help with the drying process by facilitating evaporation. They also bring down the humidity level in your home to an acceptable level.
  • Powerful dehumidifiers: These are used for removing water in the air, structural elements, and other furnishings in your home.
  • Water damage restoration professionals know how urgent water damage is, and a quick response is crucial to ensure that the damage will not spread further. It will only take them around two to four hours to contain the damage and prevent it from reaching other parts of the house.
  • These professionals arrive in teams that take care of various aspects that need immediate attention. This strategy can shorten the drying time and speed up the restoration process
  • The worst thing that can happen from water damage is the growth of mold and mildew, and restoration professionals know this and will work quickly to address it. Using the right equipment and cleaning products, they will start their mold remediation once the water damage is under control. This part should only be handled by professionals since the materials they use can be hazardous to one’s health if mishandled or misused.

The coronavirus pandemic has ushered in a new perspective as we all strive to get back to work, get back out, and get back to business. As we move toward this new normal, it’s hard to know just what your customers expect, and what you need to do as a business owner to make them feel comfortable about visiting your storefront again.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational and Safety Health Administration (OSHA) provides the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak and its impact on workers and employers. Access content on risks and transmissibility, OSHA Standards, worker’s rights, and medical and preventative steps. Visit OSHA.gov/SLTC/covid-19.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently published Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations for community facilities, but the information is relevant to all commercial cleaning operations. It covers cleaning and disinfecting protocols, recommended protective equipment and hygiene practices, and employer considerations. On Wednesday, April 1, the agency issued new guidance on the timing of disinfection after a suspected/confirmed COVID-19 case.

While maybe not an obvious choice for cleaning information, the EPA does have good online resources on which disinfectants are most effective against SARS-CoV-2. As Brain Corp’s cleaning expert Chris Wright mentioned in his blog this week, “COVID-19 Best Practice Tips for Robotic Floor Care,” retailers and other businesses need to start adopting the same rigorous cleaning approaches as hospitals do. This includes adding a hospital-grade neutral disinfectant to robotic floor care units, instead of just water.

Storm damage in Long Beach, CA

Storm safety

When you are out enjoying gorgeous summer weather, having the day interrupted by thunderstorms is quite an inconvenience—but it can be extremely dangerous, as well. Any thunderstorm, even the quick ones associated with summer heat, can cause serious damages to those in their path.

Because these storms often happen with little notice, we have assembled some tips to help you be storm-smart no matter where you are.

Be Storm-Smart No Matter Where You Are

Know your options for shelter. If it is clear that a storm is on the way and you are still safely at home, staying put until the threat passes is the safest thing to do. However, the nature of these storms do not always lend themselves to this. If you are caught out and about, your car can be used for shelter to protect you—simply cut off the engine and avoid touching metals in the vehicle.

Practice electrical safety. If lightning strikes the building you are in, the charge will typically travel through the electrical wires on its way to the ground, which can lead to a power surge. Power surges can ruin electronics and lead to dangerous sparking that can cause fires. The best thing to do is unplug everything when you know a storm is incoming, but installing surge protectors at home and at work can protect your items when this is not a possibility.

Avoid direct contact with concrete. If you are seeking shelter in a structure, concrete buildings might seem like the safest place to be. It is important to realize that these, too, can pose a threat, as metals within the concrete can still transmit an electrical charge if lightning strikes the building. If you are in a concrete building, be sure to avoid any direct contact with floors and walls to avoid harm.

Stay indoors for at least 30 minutes. When your day is interrupted by a sudden storm, it is normal to be antsy to get back outside. It is important to follow officials’ recommendations, however—because lightning is able to travel distances of up to 25 miles in order to strike, wait 30 minutes from the last clap of thunder before you head back out.

If your home sustains damage due to a storm, you can count on us to help. Contact us at any hour to learn more about our storm restoration process.

As we move further into July, many businesses are starting to reopen again and have begun welcoming staff and the public back. Things may be feeling like they’re somewhat going “back to normal,” but that does not mean the COVID-19 pandemic is over. The CDC is still urging both businesses and individuals to continue maintaining safety precautions in order to reduce risk and prevent a second wave of COVID-19 from spreading.

For some, it’s allowing employees to continue to work from home for the remainder of the year. For others, it’s implementing a phased approach of reintroducing both employees and customers to their business environment. For all, a plan that involves a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation is of the utmost importance. Transparency and clear communication of reopening plans, both internally and externally, is proving to be critical for success and support during these trying times.

Fire Damage

Though having a fire safety plan is the most important thing to consider for your household, knowing how you will navigate the stress of the recovery process is also important to consider.

Keeping yourself safe and organized is the most important thing, and to help reduce the stress, we have put together our top tips for recovering from a household fire.

Top Tips for Recovering From a Household Fire

Prepare yourself for what to expect. The damage from house fires is always unique, but it can be shocking to see if you are not expecting it. Making sure you are aware of the fact that smoke and soot can travel extreme distances throughout your home and that firefights can often lead to broken glass or holes in walls will help you know what to expect before you go in.

Wait to enter your home. It is a natural reaction to want to immediately assess and begin mitigating the damage, but you should never go back into a building after a fire until officials have deemed it safe. Damaged buildings can be hazardous as their structures may have been compromised, so going back in prematurely can put you at further risk.

Contact your insurance company. Insurance companies all vary on how they handle claim filing, which is why it is important to get in touch with yours early on to understand the process and maximize your claim.

Document the damages. Keeping thorough documentation of the damages will help you stay organized throughout the whole process, which will be helpful for you and for your insurance company. We recommend going room by room and taking photos of the damages, and making a detailed inventory list so you do not accidentally forget something in the complications of the process.

Contact your restoration company. Experiencing a fire in your home is a traumatic event for your family, which is why we recommend working with a reputable restoration company so you can return back to normal as quickly as possible. Knowing you can count on the company you have chosen will help you stress less throughout the entire process and enjoy your home once again once it is restored.

If your home is damaged in a house fire, you can count on us to help you. Get in touch at any hour for a quick response with SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach.

Water damage from neighbor above.

I had water damage from a condo unit above mine and SERVPRO, Henry, came to my rescue. They were very timely in beginning the repairs and water clean up. Miguel was extremely helpful in providing pictures for my insurance and making sure that the entire damage was dried and restored. It was major damage and it took a few weeks from the day they showed up to the day it was finished. I will definitely keep them in mind for future issues.

Before Severe Weather Strikes

Storm Warning

When severe weather rolls through, it can be fierce and devastating to everything that is in its path. While it can be tempting to disregard showers as just another part of warm weather, any time there is thunder, there is a potential for more serious damages to occur. It is important to take severe weather seriously and prepare in advance for it to occur so you can stay safe.

By having an understanding of weather alerts, making sure you have provisions on hand and ensuring you have access to important updates, you can significantly increase your safety and know for certain that you are prepared.

Have an Understanding of Weather Alerts

The good thing about weather alerts is that they are a concise way to get much-needed information, but only if you understand what the commonly used terms mean. A severe weather watch indicates that while severe weather is possible, it has not yet begun in the area. For a severe weather warning, however, that means that there is severe weather actively occurring and everyone in its path should seek shelter.Make Sure You Have Provisions on Hand

Before a storm rolls through and forces you to hunker down, make sure you have the necessary provisions and supplies on hand to stay safe. Electricity is often the first thing to go in severe weather, so flashlights and batteries are a must. Additionally, having food and water is a good idea, as well as a stocked first-aid kit. Having a household safe area is also wise—generally a closet or hallway is recommended as a spot to shelter in place.

Ensure You Have Access to Important Updates

Because we are so dependent on cell phones for updates about what is going on in the world, they are generally our primary method of receiving weather updates as well. When things turn severe, however, they are not always the best solution. Not only can power be knocked out during severe weather, but the cell and data reception will often become spotty or nonexistent. Ensuring you have access to these pertinent alerts by purchasing something like a NOAA Weather Radio is a smart way to give your safety a boost.

Storm damage in Long Beach, CA

Long Beach California during last storm.

Falling trees, fire, high wind and hail storms often cause damage to roofing and other vulnerable parts of your property. Safety should always be your primary concern to prevent storm damage to your business.

  • Roofing. The best way to prevent unnecessary damages is to ensure that your roof is in the best shape possible before storm season hits. After a storm, any initial roof assessment should be completed from the ground as you want to make sure you are safe. If you suspect damage to your shingles or structure, contact a professional immediately. Make sure everyone vacates the premises in the event of major roof damage.
  • Landscaping. Before the stormy season, have your landscaping trimmed back and remove all dead or dying vegetation. This will help to lessen the risk of flying branches or falling trees.
  • Walkways. Heavy storms can undercut walkways, making them dangerous for pedestrians, and that’s something you definitely want to avoid. Have them updated and strengthened before heavy weather, and take a good look at them after a storm moves through the area. If you need a second pair of eyes, call a professional storm damage cleanup company for help.

Storms and inclement weather can bring wind damage, heavy rain, and flooding that can devastate any business in a matter of minutes. There’s never a convenient time for flooding or water damage to strike, and storms don’t just strike during regular business hours; that’s why SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach Professionals offer 24-hour emergency service 365 days of the year. Storm in Long Beach

Many destructive impacts can come out of a single winter storm. Are you prepared for the coming winter? The array of hazards that can come from a winter storm are sometimes countless.

  • Ice: Accumulations of a half inch or more, because of it's weight can cause widespread destruction and power outages and can have a crippling impact.
  • Wet Snow: Much like ice accumulation, wet snow adds extra weight and stress, increasing the chance of damage. Moist snow sticks easily to trees and power lines.
  • Snow on Roofs: Several feet from one or multiple storms accumulating on a roof can add stress, causing them to collapse.
  • Flooding After the Snow: A rapid warm-up or rain following a winter storm with an expansive snow pack can set the stage for major flooding.

Melting snow and ice after a storm can also cause damage to the inside of your home or business. Call the professionals at SERVPRO of Quincy to assess the situation and put you to Pre-Winter condition, "Like it never even happened."

Determine Your Business’ Disaster Preparedness levels

Water damage in commercial building in Long Beach, California.
Your Commercial Insurance Coverage

Did you know that general commercial insurance policies do not typically cover the extensive damages a disaster can cause? There are many things that are usually not covered, such as damages from flooding and lost revenue due to damages, and even things that are in the policy are often not fully covered due to cost. It is smart to know exactly what your policy does and does not extend to so you can purchase necessary protections where appropriate.

Your Emergency Plan and Supply Kit

If a natural disaster is imminent, there may only be moments to react—but if you have a plan in place, you will know exactly what to do. Planning ahead can keep you and your staff much safer as everyone will be familiar with the steps to take. Be sure you know exactly how to evacuate, if that is appropriate for the situation, and also make a point to stock an office emergency supply kit in case you must await help at your business.

Your Plan for Restoration and Recovery

Knowing how you will tackle the restoration process in advance is the best way to reduce the time your business must remain closed following a disaster. Do not wait until a disaster has happened to research commercial restoration companies—instead, plan ahead so you can place the call right away. Also be sure to look into the disaster relief loans from the Small Business Administration, which provide financial assistance for your recovery.

If your business has been impacted by a disaster, you can contact us 247 for guidance on how to begin the commercial restoration process.

Lessening Fire Risks as a Business Owner

2/20/2020 (Permalink)

Fire damage in your business

Planning for the unpredictable is an important part of owning your own business, especially in regards to planning for emergencies such as fires. A fire can devastate a business if it is not adequately prepared, but a little bit of fire safety can drastically reduce the associated risks. Making sure that your business is following fire safety protocols is essential to mitigating the likelihood of a fire occurring.

Performing fire safety planning ahead of time by adhering to codes, identifying risks and preparing employees will help make sure that you and your staff are safer and help you recover in a fire’s aftermath. Commercial fires can happen at any time, so planning for a variety of scenarios is key.

Tips to Reduce Your Business’ Fire Risks

Follow code guidelines and inspection schedules. Knowing fire safety codes for businesses set up by the National Fire Protection Association is a great launching point for fire safety. Inspecting equipment on schedule and adhering to the other fire safety standards is an extremely important part of fire risk reduction that should be taken seriously.

Identify your specific risks. Not every business has the same fire risk profile as others, meaning it is important to be aware of the things specific to your business that might increase the likelihood of a fire. Consider equipment and supplies that could be fire starters and make sure you have contingency plans in place surrounding these items.

Create (and practice) a fire evacuation plan. Fire alarms can quickly cause a panic among employees who are not adequately prepared, so if you have on-site staff, it is important to get ahead of this. Hosting regular fire escape drills will solidify the evacuation plan in everyone’s mind so that they are able to react quickly and calmly in a real world fire event.

Have regular fire safety seminars with staff. Drills are a wonderful place to start, but general fire tips should also be reviewed often. Helping staff know how to increase their fire safety throughout their daily routines will reduce your chances of experiencing a fire to begin with and make sure everyone feels more prepared.

If your business has experienced a fire, we’re here 247 to respond and begin restoration. Call us today to learn how we can help you.

Household Fire Safety Tips

Household Fire Safety Tips

A house fire can happen in an instant, causing unprecedented devastation and loss. While there are many reasons a house fire can break out, quite a few of the common causes are fully preventable, provided some fire safety knowledge is implemented around the house.

To help households stay safe from fires and prepare for what they will do in a worst-case scenario, we wanted to take the time to put some of the most pressing fire safety tips in one place so they are easily accessible for local families.

The Most Important Tips for Fire Safety

Frequently Check Smoke Detectors. Installing smoke alarms in bedrooms and on every floor of the house is one of the best fire safety decisions one can make. By having these in the home and testing them monthly to ensure they are operational, you can dramatically decrease your fire risk.

Have a Fire Escape Plan. Creating a plan for what to do if a fire alarm sounds is the next step in fire safety. All rooms should have two designated exits, and family members should know where to meet up with one another after they escape.

Know How to Operate a Fire Extinguisher. Buying and learning how to operate a fire extinguisher is a great way to prepare for putting out a fire before it becomes a disaster. Make sure to research the different classes so you are getting the one that will best suit your family’s needs.

Never Leave Flames Unattended. There are many objects in the home that use open flames, such as fireplaces and stovetops. It is important to never forget that these can pose a fire risk—any open flame can travel in an instant, leading to a situation that can grow out of hand if there is no one nearby.

Keep a Closed-Door Policy. A fire that starts in the night will typically be the most dangerous because of the reduction in reaction time for those who are asleep. Keeping bedroom doors closed at night is one of the safest things to do, as it can slow down the flames’ spread dramatically and give everyone more time to escape.

Stopping Water Damage

Stopping Water Damage From Appliances

The occurrence of water damage to the home can cause major issues regardless of what the source is, but water damage that goes unnoticed for a long period of time can create compounding issues.

Common household appliances are some of the worst culprits of this—making it so important for homeowners to do regular checks to cover all their bases.

Water Damage-Causing Appliances

Hot Water Heater
Hot water heaters are built to last for up to 15 years, but can often begin leaking and require repairs long before this. As the hoses and seals begin to break down with time, it becomes vital to check on the water heater often to watch for any leaks that could become an issue.

Refrigerator
Because refrigerator water lines typically run between the unit and the wall, making a point to check for leaks is important. Without pulling the refrigerator from the wall, many leaks would be impossible to notice, leading to large sections of your structure that have sustained water damage for a long period of time. Include checking behind the refrigerator on your home’s seasonal maintenance checklist to ensure any leaks do not go on for too long.

Dishwasher
Dishwashers are similar to refrigerators in that they are rarely moved, and they also utilize a much larger volume of water, which can lead to larger leaks. Insurance coverage is not always applicable to damages from older dishwashers, so catching leaks early is key to preventing being stuck with a large bill.

Washing Machine
The washing machine uses quite a bit of water and is so prone to leaking it is recommended that the hoses are checked on a monthly basis and are replaced at least every five years, even if there are no noticeable leaks or issues present.

Air Conditioner
The HVAC unit will generally create moisture as it runs and drain it away itself. That being said, if there are issues with the water lines or drains, issues can occur. A backup of water can cause damage inside and around your unit before it is even noticed, making it vital to keep up with your scheduled maintenance and to check your unit often during the warmer months.

What to do after water damage

12/8/2019 (Permalink)

What to do after water damage;

One of the most damaging and devastating things you can experience as a homeowner is water damage. Whether it is due to flooding, burst pipes, sewer backups, roof damage due to severe storms or a leaky toilet when you are out of town – all can cause major water damage in your home. No matter what the cause, it is important to have a plan of action and know what you should do if your house floods. In fact, taking swift action can significantly improve your ability to reduce the costs of repair. Here’s what you should do after you experience water damage that will help reduce the amount of damage after and will make clean-up and repair easier.

Avoid additional risk;

If the water damage was serious enough for you to have to evacuate your home, be sure you and your family remain safe upon your return. Agencies like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) advises that you should check for the following things you’re your return to ascertain if it is safe to occupy your home:

If insured, contact your Insurance Company

No matter if you are experiencing water damage from a flood or leaky toilet, you should contact your insurance company ASAP. In fact, it’s a good idea to have their number in your phone so you are not searching for their contact information during a highly stressful time. Remember, time is of the essence! In cases where flooding is affecting a widespread area, your agent may be handling multiple homeowners (or even their own). If you find yourself having a hard time getting in touch with your agent, contact the insurance company’s headquarters.

Once you are in touch with your insurance representative, the first thing you need to do is disclose the state of your home. Make sure you take diligent notes regarding the conversation and follow their direction about whether to wait for an adjuster to inspect the property before making repairs. You will most likely find new damage that will require multiple conversations, so be sure to document EVERYTHING!

In most cases your insurance company will advise you to contact your local Restoration Company.

We at SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach are preferred vendor with most Insurance Companies. Our technicians are available 24/7 to assist with any size water damage you may experience.

When it comes to thunderstorms, lightning is one of the most dramatic (and most dangerous) displays of their power. The storm transferring its energy to a lightning bolt can cause fires to start, electronics to be ruined and home structures to be compromised. Understanding the origins of lightning and how to prepare for it can go a long way in protecting your home.

<h3thunderstorms-develop-lightning">How Thunderstorms Develop Lightning

The electrical charge inherent to all thunderstorms serves as the foundation for thunder and lightning. When a lightning bolt strikes, it is actually the storm dispelling some of its energy into surrounding clouds or toward the ground.

The earth’s atmosphere does not make an ideal conductor of electricity, so lightning will often strike an object it can travel through instead. This is why lightning strikes to homes are so common and so dangerous.

<h3for-home-protection">Tips for Home Protection

Knowing some background info about lightning provides context for protecting your home from the common types of damage that it can cause.

Protect from fire damage. Lightning bolts have been recorded as hitting temperatures of 500,000 degrees, which is hot enough to ignite most building materials on impact. The damage lightning causes to wires can also give rise to electrical fires within a home’s walls, either immediately or in the future. An electrician or the local fire department can often test for hot spots within the walls to determine your risk.

Protect your appliances. As the charge of lightning is routed through the wires, it is transferred to everything in the home’s grid—including things plugged into the wall. Surge protectors are a simple and cost-effective tool that can do wonders in preventing this.

Protect your home’s foundation. Shock waves are produced every time lightning strikes, which is what causes the claps of thunder we hear. At close range, such as when lightning strikes near a home, these waves are strong enough to crack foundations and shatter windows. A structural inspection should be performed if lightning strikes in your home’s vicinity.

If your home has been affected by storm damages or lightning-related fires, give us a call today! We are experts in damage cleanup and can restore your damage quickly.

IT COST ME MORE IN THE LONG RUN.... I had clogged drain lines, a pipe broke and my business flooded, an absolute nightmare, the fear of closing for a long period of time forced me to hire cheap and get fast back to business. I was in a panic and could not afford to close shop. My plumbers did a great job! But, I had no clue the damage sitting water could cause, I learned the hard way. A month after the incident we began to smell a musty odor and continued to linger. Someone suggested that it could be a dead animal in the walls, or behind furniture. We decided to give it a good cleaning, we moved furniture to discover dark spotting outside the bathroom walls. We had MOLD! I decided to investigate as the issue was growing and learned that water is a SOLVENT! I had to call certified experts to resolve this as now my employees and customers would be at risk. Henry and his team came out right away, I was in a panic and their calm demeanor, professional tools and efficiency reassured me that everything would be done fast and RIGHT. Even after everything was done they followed up. I was in the loop with time frames and communication with Edward (Farmer’s agent) was great help in getting things processed with SERVPRO. In retrospect, I should have called SERVPRO at first to handle the flood, and avoid the mold. Henry and his team was great! Thank you!

Water damage from Storm

As we enter into the season of spring, we must also buckle up and be prepared for whatever weather Mother Nature may choose to send our way.

Mother Nature Can Be Fickle

With the arrival of spring comes longer days and more sunshine, but unfortunately, spring also brings with it the threat of severe weather throughout the country. This means that the weather may change at any given moment.

Unstable temperatures can go from warm to cold in as short as an hour. That temperature change can result in extreme weather changes as well.

Thunderstorms are a regular occurrence throughout the spring and are the main cause of severe weather. A thunderstorm occurs whenever warm, moist air collides with cool, dry air, which is most common in the spring and summer.

Some of the costliest natural catastrophe losses in the U.S. for 2017 were the result of severe thunderstorms. Out of 50 events, there were 85 fatalities and an estimated total of $25.4 billion in overall losses.

With these storms comes the threat of flooding, high winds and even tornadoes if the conditions are right. It has been found that in modern history, 10% of all violent tornadoes have occurred in March, with April, May and June taking the top spots at 30%, 24% and 15% respectively.

Preparing for the Unpredictable

Meteorologists have the technology and the tools available to predict the possibility of severe weather, but even that is not enough to predict the weather with 100% accuracy. Advanced warnings, along with the right preparation, can greatly improve overall safety for your family.

Some suggestions of things you can do to your home to prepare for the chance of severe weather are as follows:

  1. Clear out your home’s gutters, drains and downspouts.
  2. Trim trees of precarious limbs or branches that could break off in a storm.
  3. Secure or store outdoor belongings if severe weather is in the forecast.

Having an emergency kit on hand is always advised. These kits should include the following:

  • Battery-operated flashlight and NOAA weather radio, with extra batteries for both
  • Emergency evacuation or shelter plans
  • Important personal info, like telephone numbers of neighbors, family and friends, insurance and property info, numbers for the utility companies, and medical info
  • A first-aid kit with things like non-latex gloves, adhesive bandages, tweezers, sterile gauze pads, aspirin packets, adhesive cloth tape and scissors
  • 3–5 day supply of bottled water and nonperishable food
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Blankets or sleeping bag

Despite its unpredictability, there is one thing that always remains true of the spring weather season: It always happens. If your home or business is damaged in a storm, you can depend on SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach to get the cleanup and restoration process started fast.

Prevention guide for house fires

8/12/2019 (Permalink)

House fire flames can spread rapidly, causing large-scale damage in moments. Not only can house fires be catastrophic for your property, but they can also put members of the household in danger as well. While there is no way to fully guarantee you will never be impacted by a house fire, taking precautions for prevention can help.

Frequency Statistics for House Fires

Home fires occur far more often than most might estimate—almost three times a minute as reported by the NFPA.

Cooking continues to be the No. 1 culprit in starting house fires, but of course there are many other reasons a fire could start.

Prevention Tips for House Fires

Once flames start, they can spread instantly and become unmanageable. Understanding tips for preventing house fires can reduce the likelihood of that happening. These household actions will help you prevent fires:

Performing smoke alarm checks. Most smoke alarms have a test button, allowing you to check batteries, which is recommended once a month. The full unit is recommended to be replaced every 10 years.

Clearing your dryer tray. Lint collected from the dryer may appear to be a household inconvenience, but it can be quite dangerous as well. As the dryer heats the clothes, it can also heat the lint tray and lead to combustion.

Watching open flames. As quickly as flames can spread, it is never a good idea to leave them unattended.

Maintaining cables and cords. Wires that are under stress or bending often may experience premature fraying, which can be a fire hazard. Replace them when they become frayed.

Protect household supplies. Aerosol cans and other everyday household items can be highly flammable—check the label if you are unsure. Protect these flammable products from heat and light as much as possible.

If your home has suffered damage from a house fire, give us a call. We are certified in fire and soot remediation, and here to help 247.

Water Damage

7/21/2019 (Permalink)

Water is an absolute requirement in daily life and so beneficial. But it also can take on a more sinister side and lead to much damage periodically.

There are many different things that can cause water damage—are you familiar with the numerous things that are behind it?

Key Causes of Water Damage

From 2009 to 2015, The Travelers Insurance Companies Inc. found that the top five causes of home claims were:

  • Exterior wind damage
  • Non-weather-related water damage
  • Hail
  • Weather-related water damage
  • Theft

Did you notice that water appears on this list twice? Better question—are you surprised by this? Because of its prevalence on the list, water is broken into two classifications: non-weather-related and weather-related.

Non-weather-related issues can come from things like plumbing and appliances, while weather-related damage naturally consists of issues from rain and snow.

The top five causes for water damage are plumbing issues, leaky washing machines, bursting water pipes, older water heaters and bad weather.

How You Can Prevent Some Water Damage

Water damage is a costly experience to be sure, one that could be so much worse if it isn’t covered by your homeowners insurance plan. Have you taken the time to review your policy lately? Here are some of the damages caused by water that should be covered in a standard homeowners policy:

  • Damages caused by from weight of wintery elements
  • Discharge and overflow of water, even by accident
  • Tearing apart, cracking, burning or bulging of a steam or hot water heating system
  • Freezing of plumbing and pipes

Avoiding water-related issues and potential damage situations is possible.

Make use of the following preventive fixes and routine maintenance suggestions to help your home remain free and clear of water issues:

  • Applying water sensors and automatic shut-off valves
  • Getting back flow valves and standpipes put in basement drains
  • Clearing the gutters and downspouts of debris
  • Taking time to flush the hot water tank every six months
  • Keeping grease out the kitchen sink and drain

Hopefully you can make use of these tips and help keep your property safer from some forms of water damage

Water damage can be a nightmare to deal with, but fortunately, you will always have SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach on your side to help with the cleanup and restoration process.

Commercial mold damage in Long Beach, CA

7/15/2019 (Permalink)

We have received a phone call from Powerplant in Long Beach California regarding mold concern in one of the new constructed Building. Our field inspector at SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach did visual inspection, we recommended for mold test to be performed and how to proceed with appropriate protocols. The test result came back positive. After having a meeting with project manager and hearing their concerns and their safety protocols the scheduling process started.

One of the challenges we faced our crew had to work along side of the powerplant crew and to make sure their job did not get interrupted. Also, during our mold remediation fire department must come and check all the pipes that they were in the negative air chambers to make sure they are all in working condition. Our mold remediation took 7 days and got signed off by safety inspector of the powerplant. A letter of recommendation was given to the powerplant supervisor regarding our performance and as result we got two more contracts.

Storm damage in Long Beach, CA

7/5/2019 (Permalink)

When we are in the spring and summer season, thunderstorms can happen any day. These storms can also bring a chance for property damage.

How familiar are you with the different types of damage that thunderstorms can cause?

Understanding Storms

There are an estimated 16 million thunderstorms each year all throughout the world. The United States experiences approximately 100,000 thunderstorms per year, and 10% of those are considered severe.

In order for a thunderstorm, there are three required components—moisture, rising unstable air, and a “lifting” mechanism. That lift can result from mountainous terrain that forces air to rise, or from warm/cold or wet/dry air bumping together, causing a rising motion.

There are three stages in a thunderstorm’s life cycle. The first is the developing stage, the second is the mature stage and the third is the dissipating stage. It’s during the middle stage where most damage occurs.

The Damage of Thunderstorms

Of the many different dangers present during storms, one of the greatest risks is the chance for flying debris due to high winds.

During a severe thunderstorm, winds can gust up to and over 57.5 mph, which is more than enough to cause damage to your property.

Loose items in your yard, including kids’ toys and your lawn furniture, can quickly turn into projectiles.

Thunderstorms can also produce the following damage besides wind damage:

Lightning damage. If striking a home or building, the electricity that can pass through wiring can fry your electronics. Lightning can also result in the starting of fires.

Tornado damage. These storms are often short but mighty. In comparison with the winds of a normal storm at around 60 mph, tornadoes have winds gusting up to 200 mph. That dangerous punch can wreak havoc.

Hail damage. No matter what size hail you see during a thunderstorm, damage can result. In fact, there’s more than $1 billion in hail damage reported each year.

Flood damage. When a large amount of rain falls in a small amount of time, flooding results. There’s nowhere else for the rain to go and it’s falling too fast to dissipate into the ground.

If a thunderstorm has resulted in damage to your home or business, know that the team at SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach is available 247 to help with cleanup and restoration.

Commercial mold damage in Long Beach, CA

7/2/2019 (Permalink)

After heavy rain in month of February in Long Beach, California our office received a phone call from a Powerplant. Plant manger noticed mold like substance on the walls of a new building facility and they wanted a professional opinion.

After visual inspection of the area we recommended to have mold test to be performed to make sure the dark gray substance on the walls were mold in order to determine correct scope of work.

The test result indicated there were few types of mold growth in that facility including Aspergillus.

After having a meeting with the plant manger and hearing their concerns regarding their safety protocols and to make sure we do not interrupt their work we provided our estimate and stared our mold remediation soon after.

We had to build 9 different negative air chambers in order to avoid any cross contamination, after 7 days our mold remediation was completed.

Preparing Your Household for a Flood

7/1/2019 (Permalink)

While you might think that flooding at your home is unlikely, you might be surprised.

Some form of flooding is included in approximately 90% of natural disasters. It is essential for homeowners to be aware of the dangers and understand what they can do to protect their home.

How to Prepare for a Flood in Your Home

While a flood cannot be prevented, there are steps homeowners can take to reduce the extensive damage a flood could cause:

Know your risk. Use the FEMA Flood Map Tool to understand the historical flooding in your area and learn what your actual risks are.

Anchor propane and fuel tanks. If a fuel tank tips over due to a flood, it can lead to a dangerous spill or even a fire. Remove fuel tanks from the property or anchor them securely.

Raise hazardous materials. Chemicals can pollute floodwater and even cause a fire risk in some cases. If you have hazardous materials in your garage, elevate them so they are out of the water’s way.

Prepare appliances. Risers can be made from household items such as bricks or cinder blocks to elevate washers or refrigerators. The internal workings can be damaged if waterlogged.

Turn off electricity. Though water may not reach electrical sockets, it can still pose a hazard for dangerous currents to travel. Cut electricity to keep everyone safe.

Discuss emergency procedures. Discuss a disaster plan and evacuation route with your family so everyone is aware of the procedure. Show all adults and older children where to turn off the electricity and gas mains in the house—and keep emergency supplies handy.

Consider a safety deposit box. Items considered irreplaceable, such as family memorabilia, tax records and household documents, might be best stored in a safety deposit box off-site so they will not be destroyed.

By planning ahead, you can keep your family safe and ensure that your home does not sustain any unnecessary damage as well. Taking proper precautions can make a large difference in the damage sustained.

If you’ve experienced water damage due to a flood or other causes, SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach is here to help. Our technicians are fully trained in water remediation, and our 247 Emergency Line means we’ll be there for you when you call.

Fire damage

6/6/2019 (Permalink)

One of the reasons you should call us first when disaster strikes is that we get there faster, but that is not the only reason why we should be one of your first calls if the worst should occur.

When it comes to your property, our technicians have a “restore first” mentality, which is aided by the use of specialized equipment and cleaning techniques. This mentality also helps reduce the interruptions to life and helps get your home or business back to pre-disaster condition.

Fire Damage and Restoration

Knowing the first steps to take after a fire has damaged your property is daunting, but that’s why we are here! Once you contact us, our team springs into action.

Because every fire damage event is different, our highly trained team will develop a unique solution that is tailored to your needs; however, the general process remains the same.

Here are the steps that are included in our process:

1. Emergency contact. Once you’ve made the initial contact with us, you will be asked to answer a series of questions regarding the fire damage. This helps us make sure our team is dispatched with the appropriate equipment and resources.

2. Inspection and fire damage assessment. When our team arrives on the scene, they will inspect and test adjoining rooms of the property to determine the extent of fire, smoke and soot damage. This helps us determine the right plan of action moving forward.

3. Immediate board-up and roof-tarp service. Because fire damage can compromise windows, walls and roofs, we will make sure that your property is secure and protected from further damage by boarding up missing windows and walls and placing a tarp on damaged roofs.

4. Water removal and drying (if water damage is present). Since water damage is a byproduct of fire damage, we immediately begin the removal process for all wet items. Dehumidifiers and air movers are brought in to remove the remaining water and finish up the drying process.

5. Removal of smoke and soot from all surfaces. Through the use of specialized equipment and techniques, we are able to remove smoke and soot from ceilings, walls and other surfaces.

6. Cleaning and sanitizing. If it is possible, we continue our “restore first” approach by cleaning restorable items and structures. Not only will they be cleaned, but industrial air scrubbers and fogging equipment are used to help remove odors.

7. Restoration. This is our final step in the process of getting your property back to pre-fire condition. Restoration can include minor repairs like replacing drywall, painting and installing new carpet. It could also call for major repairs like reconstruction of damaged areas.

Remember, if you need us, we’ll be there—no matter the time or day. The team of highly trained restoration experts at SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach is available for emergency cleanup and restoration services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Fire Damage

5/23/2019 (Permalink)

At the end of a day, do you usually find yourself in the kitchen? It can be a wonderfully versatile place—a place for family and friends to gather, for quality time to be spent and where some delicious eats are cooked up. Yet, unfortunately, the kitchen is also the space where many home fires occur.

Cooking fires rank No. 1 as the source of home fires and injuries, with the leading cause of these kitchen fires reported as unattended cooking.

State Farm paid out over $130 million in homeowners insurance claims related to grease and other cooking fires in 2017. According to the insurance company, these are the worst states for kitchen fires:

  • North Carolina
  • Texas
  • Pennsylvania
  • California
  • Ohio
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • New York
  • Alabama
  • Georgia
Fire Safety Tips for Cooking

Staying in the kitchen while cooking is just one of the fire safety precautions you should be observing. Here are some other helpful tips to observe while cooking:

1. Watch the type of clothing you wear when cooking. Does your outfit have long, flowing sleeves or is it big and baggy? It could catch on fire if you aren’t careful while cooking over the stove. It’s best to wear short or close-fitted sleeve shirts and make sure any baggy shirts are tucked in or tied back.

2. Flammable items should be kept away from stovetop. Make sure you don’t have kitchen towels, oven mitts, appliance cords or even curtains too close to the stovetop when cooking. Ideally, anything flammable will be moved away from it.

3. Have your home equipped with a fire extinguisher in/near the kitchen. Hopefully you have at least one fire extinguisher located in your home, ideally one that is near your kitchen. Make sure you know how to properly use the extinguisher, just in case it is ever needed.

4. Resist from throwing hot grease into the garbage can. The grease may not be on fire, but it could be hot enough to cause something in the trash to burn. You should let the grease cool a bit and then dispose of it in an old coffee can. Also, know the smoke points of the oils you cook with. Be sure to never subject a low-smoke point oil to high heat when cooking, as it could catch fire.

5. Make sure there is a fire escape plan established. In the interest of safety, thinking about worst-case scenarios can prepare you and your family for emergency if one were to occur. Go over exit routes and designated meeting points with your family, making sure that everyone knows what to do.

Fire safety in the kitchen is an absolute necessity, as it can help prevent dangerous and destructive cooking fires. If your home has experienced damage from a cooking fire, know that SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach is here to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Prepping Your Business for Potential Disasters

5/13/2019 (Permalink)

As a business owner, there are a multitude of things that must be taken care of when running your business. However, probably one of the most important factors to think about is emergency preparedness.

You never know when or if an emergency will occur. While having a plan in place cannot stop all disasters, it can still give you and your employees peace of mind where safety is concerned and ensure that your employees know what to do if a disaster or emergency situation should occur.

Making a Plan

Have you taken the time to sit down to draw up an emergency preparedness plan for various disaster situations? If not, it should be a priority!

We have listed below some of emergencies your business should have a preparedness plan in place for, including:

  • Fire
  • Severe weather, including thunderstorms and winter storms
  • Other natural hazards like floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes
  • Human-caused hazards, including accidents or acts of violence
  • Technology-related issues like power outages and equipment failure

Whether it’s a man-made incident or one created by a natural disaster, if there is no emergency plan for your business, the situation could become quite stressful quickly.

Make sure safety training and familiarization of emergency preparedness plans are included in the company onboarding process, team-building activities and continuing education opportunities. By helping employees familiarize themselves with proper safety protocol and emergency procedures, you’re not only giving them the tools to protect themselves, but you are also setting them up to help protect guests/visitors and the business itself.

Where to Start

First evaluate which situations would be most likely to occur when you begin to set up an emergency plan for your business, including even the unlikely longshots that could still happen. After all, it’s better to prepare for any worst-case scenarios and not be caught off guard.

There are plenty of online resources to help guide you through this process, including Ready.gov, the American Red Cross, FEMA and the CDC.

Have a business impact analysis (BIA) done, which will aid in the prediction of the potential effects a disaster may have on your business. This would include lost or delayed sales and income, increased expenses from repairs, and delayed implementation of business plans. Don’t forget to make sure a crisis communications plan is in place, too.

Perform regular drills once you have come up with an emergency preparedness plan, and be sure to review it and practice it with employees. Reviewing and rehearsing various scenarios can help ensure the process remains fresh in their minds and can help employees feel more empowered.

Disaster can strike when you least expect it, but by being prepared and having a plan in place, your business will be better suited to handle whatever Mother Nature has in store. If the worst should happen and your business is damaged, know that SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach is here to help make it “Like it never even happened.”

Water damage in Long Beach area

4/29/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach was called in to assess and determine of mold damage. This power plant in Long Beach, CA had some concerns about mold problem in one of their new facilities. After initial inspection we recommended for mold test to make sure if the facility is free of mold. The test result showed elevated mold spores in the facility. After talking to project manager and their safety department we started the project. We had to build 7 air chambers and to make sure that there would be no work interruption while our crew was working in the facility. Very first day our crew had to go through some safety training.

This project was challenging due to some pipes and equipment were on our way to build our chambers, plus fire department has to come and check on some of the equipment’s. Coordination with other departments was important to make sure the job gets done on a timely manner without interruption. Our crew managed to finish the first phase in 3 days so the fire department can run their test by the due date. The second phase started as soon as we got the mold clearance test form phase one. Job got completed 2 days before the due date and the project manager was pleased with the time frame.

Tornado Safety Tips

4/25/2019 (Permalink)

Springtime weather is beautiful…and unpredictable. You should always be prepared for the chance of severe thunderstorms that contribute to the perfect conditions for a tornado to strike.

April and May are traditionally the months that have the highest occurrences of tornadoes at 30% and 24%, respectively. So that means we are currently in the height of tornado season throughout the United States.

Read on as we offer some tips and information on tornadoes that can help keep your family prepared for the worst possible scenario.

Weather Conditions That Could Create A Tornado

Nearly 1,200 tornadoes occur in the U.S. each year, and they are usually the byproduct of thunderstorms, especially those known as “supercells.”

A tornado will take shape as changes in wind speed and direction create a horizontal spinning effect within a storm cell. This is then tipped vertical by rising air moving up through the thunderclouds.

At first, the tornado’s signature funnel cloud is transparent, but it will become visible as water droplets from the storm’s moist air condense or as dust and debris are picked up.

Typically, tornadoes can grow to be 660 feet wide and will move at 10 to 20 miles per hour, although larger and faster have been observed. Hail and intense winds of over 200 mph can accompany tornadoes.

Tornadoes typically occur during the late afternoon during spring and summer, but it is vital to remember that they can occur anytime and anywhere.

Important Safety Tips

Knowing the difference between a tornado watch and tornado warning is your first line of defense. A watch is issued when the conditions are favorable for tornadoes, while a warning is issued when a tornado has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar.

If a warning has been issued for your area, take immediate action and find a safe shelter, especially if you are in the path of the tornado.

Shelter options include:

  • Underground options like a basement or storm shelter.
  • The lowest part of your home, in an area that is away from outside walls, doors and windows. Interior closets and bathrooms can be ideal options.
  • If you are outside, try to get to a sturdy building. Mobile homes and trailers are not a safe option.
  • If on the road and no building access is available, do not get under an overpass or bridge. Instead, find a low, flat location and use your arms to protect your head and neck.

You should store working flashlights, a battery-powered weather radio and extra batteries in your selected tornado shelter at home.

If a tornado happens and you are caught out on the road, DO NOT try to outrun it. Also, when you are taking shelter in your home, you can provide additional cover by using furniture items like couch cushions, mattresses or blankets to help keep your head and neck covered.

Tornadoes can strike anywhere and wreak absolute havoc on the areas where they touch down. While meteorologists and weather services can provide some advanced warning to potential threats, tornadoes can still occur with little to no warning at all.

If your home or business has been damaged by a tornado, know that SERVPRO® of Northwest Long Beach is ready and waiting to jump into action and get cleanup and restoration of your property underway.

Fire damage in Long Beach / Signal Hill

4/21/2019 (Permalink)

Why it is important to act immediately when you have a fire damage

When a fire occurs in a home or a business, the aftermath can seem overwhelming, and if fire restoration is delayed, the destruction from smoke damage can become even worse. The longer you wait to address the damage, the more repairs you'll have to fix - which means you'll most likely have a larger bill for damages when all is said and done. You can avoid costly repairs and long-term issues if you make fire damage restoration a priority and follow the steps, you'll need to get your home or business back to normal as soon as possible.

Contact a Licensed Fire Damage Restoration Company

Most important step - find a fire restoration contractor who can assess the damage, give you an estimate on costs and start the cleanup process. Contact your home insurance company to make them aware of the fire and ask them for referrals for reliable businesses in your area. It's essential that you enlist the help of a licensed and insured fire damage restoration company to reduce the risk of further damage to your home. They are trained to handle this type of damage and many will perform some of the following steps to help get you through the initial fire cleanup:

While it's best to have a qualified fire restoration company handle the smoke damage restoration, there are some small tasks you can do to help minimize the initial damage before the professionals come in to do the major cleanup. Remember that safety comes first, so if there’s no way to safely gain access into your home, then stay out until the professionals arrive. If it is possible to enter your house, make sure you’re wearing work gloves, long sleeves/pants, and proper respiratory protection, such as a mask because exposure to soot can cause respiratory problems and other medical issues.

We perform a thorough cleanup using industrial-grade products and equipment, such as dry-cleaning soot sponges to remove loose soot and specialized vacuum filters to clean carpet and upholstery. 562-506-4992

Are You Ready for Unpredictable Spring Weather?

4/17/2019 (Permalink)

MOLD IS TOTALLY NATURAL, BUT IN THE HOUSE, NOT SO MUCH!!

11/9/2018 (Permalink)

WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU! WHY SERVPRO? We the experts!

Although they naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors, it is important that it serves it positive purpose outside of your HOME!

Mold is found everywhere and can grow almost on any substance when moisture is present. They reproduce by spores, which are carried by air circulation.

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

Mold is part of the natural environment, part of the Kingdom Fungi–which makes neither plant nor animal, but something in between.

Purpose of this organism? Why does it even exist? Well, without it, we would quickly be overrun outside with leaves, bark, debris and other dead organic matter because molds whole reason for being is to break down organic matter.

Therefore, outside, mold is a friend of ours; however, some friends are better left outside and not invited into our homes. Because when mold is inside, IT DOESN’T STOP BREAKING MATTER DOWN.

It will keep working and reproducing unless we keep it under control.

Tips to a Safe & Successful 4th of July

6/18/2018 (Permalink)

During the 4th of July, family and friends gather around for food, festivities, and fun. However, dangers such as fireworks, sparklers, bonfires, and barbeques become a possibility during this time.

When building a bonfire, only use dry material and make sure that all debris is at least 10 feet away.  To extinguish a fire, pour water on all embers until the hissing sounds stop. Remember to keep a fire extinguisher nearby when dealing with bonfires or grills, and always keep children and animals away from these areas.

While most kids love playing with fireworks, it is important to never toss or throw the fireworks. If dealing with fireworks, please consider the following safety tips and suggestions.

  • Wear protective eye and hand gear
  • Never carry fireworks in your pockets
  • Always have a bucket of water nearby
  • Keep unused fireworks in a closed box
  • Make sure all spectators are 25 to 40 feet away

We hope these tips well help you have a wonderful, fun and safe holiday!

Business Fire Prevention Tips

6/11/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Cleanup

6/8/2018 (Permalink)

Winter storms can have a crippling effect on the inhabitants of a community. Whatever the season; whatever the disaster; you must be prepared. Evacuate if necessary and brace yourself. Once the storm hits there’s not much you can do. Hopefully, you and your loved ones have made it out with minimal injuries. Now, you must prepare for storm damage cleanup.

Winter storm damage

Winter can bring on some frigid weather which can freeze pipes and cause them to burst. The result can be extensive water damage. Outdoor pipes most likely to freeze can be outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool/hot tub supply lines and water sprinkler lines. Interior pipes in unheated or inadequately heated areas include those in basements, crawl spaces, attics and garages. Make sure to look at these when inspecting your home. Roof damage is also an issue since snow and ice can damage gutters and roofs.

Getting help with storm damage cleanup

Since we are locally owned and operated, we are able to respond quicker with the right resources, which is extremely important. A fast response lessens the damage, limits further damage, and reduces the restoration cost.

Mold In The Workplace

6/4/2018 (Permalink)

Why do I need to call a professional after there has been a Storm?

6/1/2018 (Permalink)

You come home from work after it had been storming all day and find that there is about an inch of standing water on your basement floor. Immediately you begin grabbing as many towels as you can and begin ringing them out into a bucket. You start opening up windows, you grab a fan to help dry up the water. You can’t get the job done fast enough. You think to yourself, “Can I do this myself or should I call for help?”

When a home is not properly cleaned after floodwaters have occurred and a person attempts to fulfill the job themselves without the help of a professional it can end in more harm than good. Often times the cleaning, drying, and disinfecting processes aren’t done correctly which can result in leaving your home as an unhealthy and potentially moldy environment.

It is unfortunately not a time to try to do the job alone. Here are a few reasons why calling a professional is best rather doing it yourself:

  • Flood water is contaminated
  • Gravity pulls water
  • Beware of mold
  • Equipment is essential

SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach is trained to clean, dry and disinfect your home in a way that leaves it free from contamination and mold. So, rewind! When you walk into your home and head down to your basement and come across standing water you will not attempt the job on your own. In fact, you will not let another moment go by without calling SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach to get the job done right. You may attempt to soak up some of the water but it is after you have alerted us at SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach and will be on our way to rescuing your home from water damage and a major outbreak of mold. Protect your home, protect your family and if you come across the horror of floodwaters invading your home, make the choice to call.

Safety Tip – Fire Extinguishers in the Home

5/28/2018 (Permalink)

Cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires and fire injuries. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that 3 out of 10 house fires start in the kitchen. It is recommended to keep a fire extinguisher in or near the kitchen area.

You want to make sure it is a good size that it is large enough to handle a small fire in your home, but not so large that it is difficult to handle. You want to make sure it is a multi-purpose extinguisher that can handle almost any house fire situation. We recommend an ABC rated extinguisher. What does ABC mean?

  • Class A: for ordinary combustible materials, paper, wood, and most plastics
  • Class B: for flammable or combustible liquids
  • Class C: for electrical equipment

If you don’t take a training course for operating a fire extinguisher, remember these few steps using the acronym PASS: Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep.

  • Pull the pin. Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism.
  • Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
  • Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.
  • Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side.
  • If the fire re-ignites, repeat the last 3 steps.

Now that you have your new fire extinguisher and know how to operate it, make sure to store it in a readily accessible area such as a kitchen cabinet. Remember, your fire extinguisher is a good first response to a fire in your home but be sure to call your local fire department and have a fire escape plan if the fire gets out of control.

Mold Testing and Inspection

How Does Mold Testing and Inspection Work?

Once you see signs of mold and contact SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach for an appointment then a qualified inspector from a 3rd-party lab is then scheduled to perform the mold testing and inspection. We will schedule him at a date and time that is convenient for you.

The Inspection Begins

The inspector will decide which would be more beneficial in diagnosing any possible mold issue in your home.

Once the mold testing and inspection is complete, the test results will be sent to SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach within 24 – 48 hours after they receive them.

Common Misconceptions about Mitigation & Restoration

5/22/2018 (Permalink)

There are many misconceptions regarding the mitigation and restoration of property damage. However, professional restoration companies are trained to see beyond these myths and to apply the right course of action to mitigate the damages.

Common misconceptions and the truth behind them:

  1. Replacing costs less than restoring. A trained restoration company should be able to successfully clean and remove contaminates, avoiding the high costs of replacement.
  2. If you clean your carpets, they’ll get dirty more quickly. This was true in the past, when the techniques, equipment and materials that were used left a soap residue that attracted dirt more than before cleaning. Nowadays, the cleaning process prevents that from happening.
  3. Drying a home is complete when the carpets are dry. The drying process is complete only when all the structural items, such as cement floors and walls, are totally dry. To measure the moisture levels, professionals use advanced meters and sensors.
  4. A home that has been damaged by fire will always smell like smoke, so cleaning it fast is unnecessary. If you don’t clean the smoke residue immediately after a fire, the valuables in your home may suffer irreversible damage, due to the acidic nature of the smoke particles.
  5. It’s cheaper to do it yourself rather than hire a restoration company. This holds true in some cases, but you must be extremely careful, since a botched repair can cost you more in the long run.

There are other misconceptions that could hinder the mitigation and restoration of property damage after a disaster. When in doubt, always consult a trained professional restoration company, such as SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach.

Sewage Backup Dangers & What to Do

5/22/2018 (Permalink)

The last thing any homeowner wants to deal with is a sewage backup. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of potentially terrible things that can happen to your home, but having sewage backup flood your home is truly dangerous. Sewage back up dangers effect not just to your home, but primarily to your health.

Sewage backup, which can occur following a flood or if your home’s sewage system gets backed up, can cause various diseases and be hazardous to your health.

So what is it that causes sewage backup? There are various factors at play, but plenty of things can result in your home having a sewage backup problem. Structural defects, root infiltration, improper flushes, which means items that shouldn’t be flushed down the toilet, wet weather, flooding around and under your home, planning problems with sewage lines, pipe blockages and broken or leaking pipes can all be responsible. So being aware of these things can help prevent possible sewage backup in your home. So be sure to keep an eye out for these things, and be sure not to flush anything strange down the toilet.

Should the worst happen and you do find yourself with a sewage backup situation, it must be handled by a professional in a timely manner.

Mold is Hazardous for Your Health

4/20/2018 (Permalink)

Mold was growing inside a home.

Mold is a form of fungus that is found all around us in the natural environment. However, when there is moisture indoors that isn't dried immediately — such as when there is leakage or flooding — mold can grow inside, too. In the bathroom, mold can grow readily and easily because of the wet conditions. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause an allergic reaction), irritants and, sometimes, toxic substances. Inhaling or touching mound spores may cause an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, a runny nose, red eyes and skin rash. Molds can also cause asthma attacks. Mold spores also produce toxins (mycotoxins) that can affect the lungs, skin, and nervous system.

In 2004, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found sufficient evidence linking exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms such as coughs and wheezing in otherwise healthy individuals.

Proper Mold Remediation

4/4/2018 (Permalink)

Mold found in a home that needs to be remediated.

When you have a mold problem, you have a quality of life problem. Living with mold is more than just inconvenient – it’s dangerous. It’s important that you remove the mold. However, proper mold remediation is a detailed process. It requires the skill and knowledge of an experienced professional. Find out the five key steps in removing mold from your home.

  1. Connecting Your Mold Problem to Moisture

Mold thrives in the presence of moisture. A specialist needs to figure out where that moisture is coming from.

  1. Create a Proper Mold Remediation Plan

Before we can get rid of mold, your specialist will need to document the problem. He can use pictures, text, and videos to come up with a proper mold remediation plan.

  1. Determine the Contamination Level

Mold can spread quickly. Therefore, it’s important that your specialist determines how far your mold spread. The level of contamination could be much greater than you think. The level could affect the scope of the project.

  1. Begin the Work

Once the specialist knows the level of contamination in your home or business, he can start the proper mold remediation process. This process involves cleaning up mold while limiting mold exposure. Additionally, it involves preventing new mold growth.

Clean-Up

One of the most important parts of this step is the project clean-up. For a less severe mold problem, the specialist might only clean the area with a detergent cleaning solution. However, a more severe problem requires a more detailed clean-up. Your specialist would need to vacuum with a HEPA vacuum filtration and then sanitize the area.

  1. Make Sure the Project Was a Success

After everything is done, your specialist will need to double check the work. He/she will revisit the home to make sure that high elevated moisture level is no longer a problem.

What you should know about Water Damage

4/4/2018 (Permalink)

A flooded family room caused by a storm.

Most of the time it’s easy to think only about water’s life affirming properties especially during the heat of summer when rain means relief from the blistering temperatures. However, like the other essential elements of nature, water both sustains life and it can destroy it as well. For this reason, insurance companies recognize water as one of the forces – along with fire, wind, etc. – that can damage your home and property and even endanger the safety of your family. Here are some things homeowners should keep in mind about water and the damage it can cause.

Water fuels mold growth: Oxygen, moisture and organic materials are all essential to the growth of mold. In fact, mold can grow in as little as 24 to 48 hours under the right conditions. If your home has excessive moisture present, then your home is likely to also be a breeding ground for mold.

Water is a “universal solvent”: Water is known to capable of dissolving more materials than any other liquid. This means that when it comes to your home, all materials in it are susceptible to water damage.

There are different insurance policies for flood damage and water damage: As far as insurance companies are concerned, damage caused to a policyholder’s home by a flood and water damage caused by other sources is different. Thus, when reporting water damage to your insurance company, be sure to specify whether the damage was caused by water, e.g., a burst pipe, etc. or by a flood.

There are three categories of water contamination: Our industry has three classifications of water contamination: categories 1, 2 and 3. Water from category 1 is from clean water sources such as an overflowing bathtub. Water from category 2 contains a significant degree of chemical, biological, and/or physical contamination. This is known as grey water. Water from category 3 is highly contaminated. This water is known as black water.

Water damage gets worse not better: Once water damage begins it usually gets worse unless professionals are called. Water damage repair must be done by professionals. Homeowners should never take the DIY approach to this task.

So, know who to call, us at SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach. Our staff is highly trained in property damage restoration. From initial and ongoing training at SERVPRO’s corporate training facility to regular IICRC-industry certification, rest assured our staff is equipped with the knowledge to restore your property.

The Dangers of Letting Smoke Go Untreated

4/4/2018 (Permalink)

A fire in a garage cause by an electrical shortage.

Fire and smoke damage can wreak havoc to your personal property and structures. A quick reaction can help you minimize the impact of the destruction as some of your household goods can be cleaned and salvaged if treated immediately. You should, therefore, hasten the process of hiring a professional to help you manage the damage in a correct manner. Conversely, if left untreated, smoke and fire damage can be more devastating in the following ways:

Restoration cost increases

If smoke goes untreated for a long time then the odors become more persistent and more difficult to neutralize and will make the treatment process harder and more time consuming and ultimately more expensive.

Major damage

Smoke and ash can mix with water to produce a very corrosive element that will slowly corrode away walls, floors, ceilings and any other surfaces in your home. Cleaning up quickly with soap and water is not enough. It requires proper cleaning with appropriate chemicals to remove it completely.

Soot Residue

Neutralizing the soot residue and deposits is an effective first clean up step. If left for long, soot can easily travel and invade rooms that weren't affected by the fire.

Permanent damage

Your property can suffer permanent damage if not treated in a timely manner. Damage begins to set in within hours and prolonged exposure may cause permanent harm to your walls which turns yellow, metal surfaces begins to corrode, clothes stain permanently and wooden furniture which may need refinishing. It also damages the floor which may need replacement.

Following a fire, it is necessary to seek smoke treatment immediately to save yourself from the effects of prolonged exposure to smoke and to make it easier for you to restore your home.

Christmas Tree And All Other Fires Move Fast

In Less Than 20 Seconds This Room Can Not Be Entered

If you are ever faced with a fire, CALL 911!  This film was produced by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and presents how seconds count in protecting human life.  We first watched this film for our Community Emergency Response Team Training from FEMA.  Fire moves at amazingly fast speeds, and must be extinguished properly based upon materials burning... in less than 20 seconds the room pictured can not be entered because of temperatures and air quality.

Always call for emergency services 1st. Keep a fire extinguisher in key locations throughout your house.  Train everyone on escape routes and where extinguishers are located... and yes, how to use the extinguisher.

Hopefully, none of us will ever have this experience, but if we do these tips can save lives.  For additional information call us at 562 506 4992, we will provide you an excellent brochure on the Do's and Don'ts of emergencies... sometimes what you DON'T do is even more important than what you do.

Fire Can Affect Multiple Lifes

11/25/2017 (Permalink)

Attached Housing, Home Owner Associations, and Commercial Property Pose Special Challenges When Emergencies Occur

The expansion of attached housing, large Commercial/Apartment buildings, and Homeowner Associations have added many important considerations to safety and fire prevention/containment.  A neighbors fire may create substantial smoke and water damage to neighbors.

It is highly beneficial to know what steps Associations have take... if none, it is very wise to open that discussion.  Establish what has been done for fire containment, what prescribed and alternative escape routes are in place... And tested all.  Know what insurance is in place for the Association, what individual insurance exists, what plans are in place if cleanup and repairs are ever needed... under any circumstance.

Then call SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach and ask about the benefits of SERVPRO Emergency Ready Plans.  A no charge service performed to help provide a plan for when emergencies occur.  562 506 4992

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) | Ready.gov

When disaster hits, many times the only resource available to help is your neighbor.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

The CERT course is taught in the community by a trained team of first responders who have completed a CERT Train-the-Trainer course conducted by their state training office for emergency management, or FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI). CERT training includes disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations and light search and rescue operations.

Water Emergencies Must Be Resolved Rapidly

11/16/2017 (Permalink)

Improper attempt to "dry" this storm damaged ceiling has added significant to damage, costs, and mold remediation.

Ignoring storm damage and water is never a good idea... In this case, water was allowed to sit in wet insulation on dry wall and very quickly developed mold.  Dark marking began to appear within the old water marked area in this ceiling and seams began to sag.

The scope of all work becomes much larger and more complex when storm damage is not eliminated quickly.  In this occurrence, a large section of the ceiling had to be carefully removed.  We then removed all moisture affected insulation (much larger than would have been originally removed).  All affected wood was then HEPA vacuumed, sanitized, sanded, and dehumidifying and air scrubbing equipment was installed.

This was simple water damage from a storm and did not need to change to mold.  The rapid addressing of water leaks would have eliminated water and saved days of work and $$Thousands!!!

Do Southern California Homes Have A Mold Problem?

Do Southern California Homes Have A Mold Problem?

Photo Caption:

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise mold removal and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Long Beach Residents: Follow These Mold Safety Tips If You Suspect Mold

5/8/2017 (Permalink)

Be careful! Without proper training, you could be spreading mold throughout your home.

If you see visible mold, do not disturb it.

Help protect your family and loved ones from possible injury or illness from mold.  You can inadvertently spread the mold infestation throughout your home. When mold is disturbed, the mold can release microscopic mold spores which become airborne and can circulate inside your home.

What to Do:

  • Turn off the HVAC system, fans, any items that move air including clothes dryer.
  • Contact SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach for mold remediation services.

What Not to Do:

  • Don’t touch or disturb the mold.

At the American Red Cross, we offer best-in-class in-person, online and blended learning first aid classes that can help you administer assistance to injured children and adults until medical professionals arrive. However, like many things, if you don't use your skills frequently, they're often easy to forget. First Aid Recertification - If you've already learned to perform first aid but need to renew your certification, you can do so in an abbreviated class that allows you stay up to date on the latest techniques, and sharpen your skills.  What would you do if disaster hit your house?  Do you have at least a week supply of water for each family member? What is your plan to reunite with remote loved ones?  What is your plan if power remains out for more than 3 days?  How many flashlights do you have safely located throughout the house?  Where are they/does every one know where they are/have you tested the batteries?  When was your last emergency drill?  How do you turn off the utilities?  Who turns off the utilities?  Under what circumstances do you turn off the utilities or leave them on?  Have you completed your emergency drill at night in the dark... there may not be access to light when you need to evacuate.  These are all things that can save valuable minutes and lives. Remember, when a real emergency strikes you may not see an emergency worker for days... You can not count on anyone coming to your rescue.

The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program, FEMA

5/1/2017 (Permalink)

FEMA's National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program

California (and the rest of the country) need to be prepared for the occurrence of Earthquakes.  FEMA has published an very good overview of Hazard Reduction... it is simple, with easy to implement recommendations.  Please take the time to review the information, pick the most important suggestion for you and implement it... then go back and choose another and implement it...You will soon find you have a strengthened emergency plan that was easy to complete.

We are posting a copy of the Overview document in the hope that additional information leads to additional community safety.  We are also including the link to FEMA, it contains a wealth of information on emergency response to numerous disaster situations.

Reducing Earthquake Risks
Earthquakes cannot be prevented, but their impacts
on life, property, and the economy can be managed.
Congress first authorized the National Earthquake
Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) in 1977
(Public Law 95-124) to “reduce the risks of life and
property from future earthquakes in the United
States.” The most recent reauthorization was Public Law 108-360.
The role of NEHRP is to provide the public and
private sectors with the scientific and engineering
information, knowledge, and technologies needed
to prepare for earthquakes and reduce the
costs of losses and recovery. To fulfill this role,
NEHRP works in partnership with the community
of earthquake professionals in academia and in
business, government, technical, professional, and
codes-and-standards organizations involved in the
earthquake risk reduction process.
A Federal Partnership
Focusing on building code standards, technical
guidance, and education, NEHRP is a collaborative
effort among the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA); the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST), the NEHRP lead agency;
the National Science Foundation (NSF); and the
United States Geological Survey (USGS). These
agencies work in close coordination to improve
the understanding of earthquake hazards and to
reduce the Nation’s vulnerability to earthquakes.
The agencies research the causes and effects
of earthquakes to produce technical guidance;
develop earthquake-resistant design, construction
standards, and techniques; and educate the public
about earthquake hazards and mitigation (visit
NEHRP Agencies for more information).
Federal Emergency Management Agency
Under NEHRP, FEMA is responsible for
developing effective earthquake risk reduction
tools and promoting their implementation, as
well as supporting the development of disaster-resistant building codes and standards. FEMA’s 1 NEHRP activities are led by FEMA Headquarters, Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA), Risk Reduction Division, Building Science Branch, in strong partnership with other FEMA HQ Directorates, and in coordination with the FEMA Regions, the States, the earthquake consortia, and other public and private partners.
National Institute of Standards and Technology
NIST, in addition to serving as the lead NEHRP
agency, develops, evaluates, and tests earthquake
resistant design and construction practices
for implementation in the building codes and
engineering practice. NEHRP Directorate,
Secretariat, and applied research activities are
conducted under the NIST Engineering Laboratory
(EL) Materials and Structures Division.
National Science Foundation NSF supports basic research and research facilities in earth sciences, engineering, and social, behavioral, and economic sciences relevant
to understanding the causes and impacts of
earthquakes. NSF’s NEHRP-related support is
carried out primarily through research grants to
individual universities, university consortia, and
other organizations. These grants are awarded
primarily through the agency’s Directorate for
Engineering and Directorate for Geosciences.
NEHRP Mission
The mission of NEHRP is to develop,
disseminate, and promote knowledge,
tools, and practices for earthquake
risk reduction—through coordinated,
multidisciplinary, interagency partnerships
among the NEHRP agencies and their
stakeholders—that improve the Nation’s
earthquake resilience in public safety,
economic strength, and national security.

United States Geological Survey

USGS operates and supports earthquake

monitoring, data analysis, and notification facilities; provides earthquake hazard assessments; and

conducts and supports targeted research on earthquake causes and effects. The Earthquake

Hazards Program Office and USGS Headquarters lead the agency’s NEHRP work. USGS research

and monitoring activities are conducted by USGS

scientists at offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Anchorage, Alaska; Golden, Colorado; Memphis, Tennessee; Menlo Park and Pasadena, California; and Seattle, Washington, as well as through grants and cooperative agreements with universities, State geological surveys, and other organizations.

Cooperating Organizations

The NEHRP agencies support and work with many cooperating organizations. These organizations

include the Applied Technology Council, the

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, the National Institute of Building Sciences, the Southern

California Earthquake Center, The Federal Alliance

for Safe Homes, Outreach Process Partners, and

the four regional earthquake consortia: the Cascadia

Region Earthquake Workgroup, the Central United States Earthquake Consortium, the Northeast

States Emergency Consortium, and the Western

States Seismic Policy Council. These organizations and many others are essential in furthering the work of NEHRP.

NEHRP Goals

Improve understanding of Goal A earthquake processes and impacts Develop cost-effective measures to reduce earthquake impacts on Goal B individuals, the built environment, and society-at-large Improve the earthquake resilience Goal C of communities nationwide

Technical Guidance

Based on research conducted by the NEHRP

agencies, FEMA develops technical guidance manuals, handbooks, and training materials on seismic safety and construction. State and local

governments, building code officials, architects,

engineers, and building industry professionals use these materials for designing and building homes,

businesses, and infrastructure; retrofitting existing buildings; and developing building codes in at-risk

areas.

FEMA provides the following types of information:

  • Guidance and best practices on seismic design, construction, and upgrade techniques
  • Procedures for identifying, documenting, and ranking earthquake hazards and the resultant

risks to buildings and infrastructure

  • Techniques for evaluating structures damaged by earthquakes, such as steel frame buildings and concrete and masonry buildings
  • Methods for estimating seismic upgrade

costs and benefit-cost models for upgrading

government buildings

  • Recommended improvements to design and construction standards for structures in

earthquake-prone areas

  • Performance-based design and construction guidance for building owners, managers, and regulators to best determine how a building will perform in an earthquake of specific parameters

Public Education Materials

The NEHRP agencies, with their partners, produce the following types of earthquake safety materials:

  • Brochures and web-based materials for homeowners and businesses
  • Techniques for upgrading homes and reducing

hazards in homes and businesses

  • Earthquake curricula for grades K-6 and 7-12
  • Tools to assist disaster educators, incident

managers, and others to organize earthquake

safety programs

Smoke and Soot Damage Can Cause a Pervasive Odor in Your Los Angeles Home.

4/12/2017 (Permalink)

Fire prevention needs to be an everyday endeavor!

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

Damage Can Occur In Any Type of Storm

1/11/2016 (Permalink)

We can help 24/7

Whatever Kind of Storm, SERVPRO Can Fix the Damage

Many homeowners expect only the worst storms to do damage to their home. Even short storms can cause damage to a home when trees are victims of disease. Many diseases can create weak trees with dead limbs, and some diseases can affect the roots of the tree instead. A tree that looks healthy may not be in reality, and it can actually be a huge danger to your home or garage without you knowing until it is too late. If your home or garage, or any other outbuildings, have been damaged by tree limbs or trunks, it is good to know that we have the skills and equipment to make it "Like it never even happened."

Rain is not Always Needed for Storm-Like Conditions to Exist, Nor for Damage to Happen

Dust storms can also create conditions ripe for storm damage to happen. Shingles and siding can come off, ripped away by high winds and debris that is carried by the wind. If sand is carried by winds, this can corrode and pit paint and other surfaces of your home's exterior. With trees, rain often erodes soil away from roots, making it easier for entire trees to topple onto houses and garages. Rain is not always needed for this to happen, however, if erosion has already happened.

When damage happens during a storm or when storm-like conditions happen, repairs should be started and completed as soon as possible. This can substantially reduce the risks posed by the elements to the interior of your home. Repairs will also keep insects and other pests from getting a foothold in further deteriorating your home's exterior. Termites and other pests, some of which may have been the reason behind any diseased trees on your property, won't be able to infiltrate your home's exterior if repairs are made, and completed, in a timely manner.

Storm Damage Repairs to Your Home or Garage First Begin with a Call to Us

At SERVPRO, we want you to know that we have the training, education, and experience to get your home or garage back in pre-damage condition. Call us, SERVPRO of Northwest Long Beach at (562) 206-4992 and we will arrive at your door to assess the damages and begin repairs.
